I'll be in the middle of Moving Hell for the foreseeable future, but I'm knitting and crocheting through it all and am writing up my first crochet pattern design!

I look forward to sharing it once I locate and reach the light at the end of the tunnel.

Attempt 1 at Ranunculus xmas eve cast on: Fiddly, frustrating, got to the end of the ribbed round 1 on the wrong stitch, tried to TINK and the cast-on stitch underneath unravelled.

On a limited time schedule today and now have to start from scratch. Less relaxing than hoped. May cancel xmas to knit

Day 354: Presented without comment (although the second panel did make me laugh audibly as I was inking it)
2-panel comic drawn with ink and sable brush, with inkwash shading and no captions. The panels are stacked vertically and the top panel is open on the top. Panel 1 shows me, a white lady with long, dark, wavy hair, sitting on my couch under a blanket and peacefully pulling a needle and thin yarn through a darning loom that's mounted on a thick sock. Panel 2 is a switched perspective, with a closeup shot of my reflection showing in the metal top of the darning loom; my face is warped and looks very unflattering from an upward angle, looking directly up my terrible nostrils and showing at least 5 rolls in my cheek and neck skin as I peer downward. I've heard @knit365.bsky.social talking about a Christmas Eve cast on in his Vlogmas videos and am all set up to cast on my Ranunculus top on the day - I'll have to see whether it becomes a tradition in future years!

Slipping in under the wire this week because I never posted my finished Vitamin D #cardigan. I wasn’t sure the darkest purple yarn would last through the entire edging, and I’m so glad it did. Really ties the whole sweater together.

My Vitamin D cardigan lying flat on a wooden deck. I knit this with one of The Blue Brick’s all over gradient sweater kits in the Blossom color way. The body of the cardigan flares out like a semicircular shawl, with the front right corner folded over the left side of the sweater. Raglan sleeves stretch out to either side. The upper body is neon lime green, which fades through pinks and magentas to a deep purple toward the cuffs and hem. Around the neck, front edges, curved hem, and cuffs of the sweater is a thin garter border in the darkest purple of the gradient. The damp Vitamin D cardigan being blocked on top of a bed. The body of the sweater is spread out to show that it is essentially a semicircular shawl, while the sleeves are stretched out underneath. I mostly smoothed out the shape by just tugging the body so that the bottom curve looked even. There are four pins holding the shoulders and bottom corners in place, but the cardigan is otherwise unpinned. This view displays the way that the back of the cardigan has the complete gradient, while the short row shaping in the fronts creates several abrupt color jumps from bright green to pinkish green to vibrant pink. The almost finished cardigan before I picked up along the front edges and the neck and knit the dark purple garter stitch border. The sweater is in a similar position to that in the first image, except that the left front is crossed over the right. The gradient in the sleeves doesn’t darken quite as much as in the body, so when I found that I had enough dark purple left, I picked out the original cuffs, extended the stockinette a bit, then knitted the garter cuffs in the same color as the front edges.

Caught up with Game of Wool this weekend in time to watch this week's semifinal.

The challenges posed have definitely improved as the cast got smaller, but I do question their claim to find the 'best knitter' when it has been (?)70% crochet so far. Lack of factual terms is rather irresponsible.

Blocked the rananculus swatch and have come to the conclusion that I am not going to block the finished piece very much at all - it was about the right height and only 1 stitch too dense pre-block, but there’s no lace detail in the swatch.

Also my sleepy speedy knitting is super uneven :-s

?? for the #knittinghistory folks. I've found a pattern pamphlet (1954) by Nell Armstrong of Doreen Knitting Books of Lowell, MA. Nell and the company were prolific mid-century publishers, not a yarn brand. Can anyone tell me anything about Nell and/or the company? #knitting

Where we discover I have no way to handle a luxury skein for the first time (never had one before and am without a proper home so no tool access). It was all twisted on itself from the outset though and I hated that the ties were with the same colour yarn.

We invite you to participate in an exciting project exploring the cultural significance of the tailored suit within the community. We are looking for volunteers, aged 18 and older, to participate in an exciting project exploring the cultural significance of the tailored suit within the LGBTQIA+ community during the 1970s and 1980s. This study is open to: • Individuals who self-identify as queer or belong to the LGBTQIA+ community and were 18+ in the 1970s and 1980s. • Relatives or close associates of queer individuals from this era, are encouraged to join. You would be invited to participate in an interview session, either online or in-person. If you choose to come to one in person, they will be held in The Townsend Room, located in the Bishopsgate Institute (230 Bishopsgate, London, EC2M 4QH) or in public spaces such as coffee shops, public libraries, or LJMU classrooms. If you choose to take part virtually, you will be sent a secure link to a Microsoft Teams meeting which you can join from. Each session would take about two hours of your time. You would be asked to share your personal stories related to the tailored suit, and ideally, bring a photograph or meaningful clothing item, although this is not required. If you are interested and would like more information, please reach out to the investigator. There is no obligation to take part. You will receive a gift card as a thank you for your valuable contributions. Thank you!
