40 years ago, CRASH featured this cool cover to promote its review round-up of all the latest Speccy sports games. Which basically celebrated the sheer wealth of new sports games and showed the scene was absolutely not on its last legs as the cover suggested! Early "clickbait!"😁

The Covertape wars. Great for kids (like myself) on a limited budget, but the death knell for the actual software market.
Saw people comparing the cost of Switch 2 games to how many months of GamePass you could get for the same amount, and immediately flashed back to the dying days of 8-bit computers when magazines would have free cover tapes containing recent games. And how that whole sector died immediately after.
