Kind of surprised Velma's is even still open, used to grab beers there after work at the trade show display manufacturer out there and there were some rowdy locals on occasion. It looks like less of a dive in the preview picture here than it was then.

Turns out I can trace the paternal lineage to a Dutch settlement prior to the Mayflower so this Brianna come lately should be happy her people got to stay too. Neither of us did anything but get born.
If immigrating from England makes you a "heritage American" then I guess I'm one too.

Need a social media setting that will still show me the pictures of my friends kids but filter out their, uh, woke slop reposts. I'm even comfortable with the notion there's a benefit to low effort left liberal posting but I don't need to see "occupy democrats" screenshots over and over again.

NOT the right time or anything but "repugnant verdict" is a solid b+ doom metal band name

this is going to be a hell of an audio sample on a stadium crust record
Trump on Venezuela: "Getting land, oil rights, whatever we had -- they took it away because we had a president that maybe wasn't watching. But they're not gonna do that. We want it back. They took our oil rights. We had a lot of oil there. They threw our companies out. And we want it back."

Even ignoring any of the content, does she have any past experience doing network level television interviewing? It's a skill like any other professional skill and doing premium cable panels/writing a blog/harassing her professors is not enough training for the big leagues.

I'm an "introvert" (for whatever that's worth) in that I find larger groups to be more exhausting than average and need downtime to myself--not that I find talking to strangers some sort of difficulty, which doesn't seem to have much to do with introversion/extroversion but basic socialization.
Column by Kyle Melnick: Spending a day with an extroverted foster dog forced me to talk to strangers — something I would not normally do — and showed me that some people are not that bad.
Column | I’m an introvert. Here’s what I learned from a day with an extroverted dog.
A reporter’s day with a D.C. shelter dog taught him a lesson about trust.

How much time collectively has this guy spent of his life having this argument? Hours you think? Seems like a good way to spend the limited time we all have.
I care about the harm to my sanity and schedule for being forced to go artificially slow

The stopwatch and timer on ios 26 has some fascinating bugs. There's a countdown timer that keeps coming back paused, and the stopwatch appears to pick random times to duplicate itself. Really seems like these were solved problems with the prior couple dozen ios releases.

The Atlantic once again showing why it's not just ok to go around the paywall, it's obligatory to not fund them at all.

I wonder if any of the deliberations, emails, etc. can be FOIA'ed about this? There's a paper trail, it needs to be retained and publicized. I would like to see a civil rights investigation against Steven Hood and anyone else involved from a future DOJ with a functioning civil rights division.
My column this week. The University of Alabama's decision to shut down two student publications aimed at Black and female students reflects an institution that has gone beyond cowardice to openly embracing the White House's message that minorities do not count in public life.
From cowardice to connivance at the University of Alabama | Alabama Reflector
The university's growing embrace of anti-DEI policies seems less like a surrender to the White House than an embrace of it.

In the past, say 24 hours, if you've spent more than a few minutes fighting with a rando about an election that's 3 years away I would suggest finding one of your area's lovely independent coffee shops and having a conversation with someone about the weather.

It's bad that someone is a paid political commentator at a reasonably large institution and they are currently having the argument they want to be having while everyone else is having a distinctly different one.

uuuuugh went to a software project documentation page and the interface was a chatbox goddamn it. please put a fucking README with examples or even a description of what the thing does. why would I want your alternative to kafka when I haven't found a convincing reason to use it in the first place?

Nice to see AA baseball represented on AEW even if it is a division rival of my team. The Trash Pandas have managed to win the marketing race but not so much the winning games part.

Last of the major DeLillo works that I had never managed to finish until today. More entertaining than most of the fictional nonsense around JFK's assassination.

With respect to Billy Gibbons and savory flatbreads I wish I could put a regex mute for all things with a double "z" on here.

oh cool we're again pretending that dumb rich athletic department boosters paying too much for firing coaches is coming out of tax dollars. yes it's a big amount of money but have you noticed it's not happening at state schools that don't have huge revenue generating programs and rich boosters?
