I have nothing against courses and learning resources! My posts are only about any sort of formal certification.

More information about engine's inner workings would be nice. Juan wanted to do something like that at some point, but it never got anywhere after an introductory video.

There are also cutout and vector versions of it out there somewhere, I'm sure! But when you gotta make a thing, you just go and make it, suboptimal way or not :)

Absolutely true for higher education as well, yes. But HE is often seen as a baseline, so not a sign that the person is skilled at all, whereas certifications are weighed as an extra.

I can't point to specific bad examples, but good ones are usually in the network and security sectors, like Cisco.

😨 I really don't want to press the like button, but I appreciate the effort :D

I find that these certification programs are usually just a way to extract money from the community and provide no real measurement of one's qualification come time to interview a hire. There are _some_ certification programs in dev world which are informing, but they are also extremely grueling.

You could just give everything its Finnish names, for extra meme points 👀

I'd love me the Steam Machine though. Just as a small, tabletop PC. Just to work on Linux with the best gaming compatibility out there as a bonus. Given the opportunity, that's what I'd pick as my next main/dev computing device.

They don't have volume of any console manufacturer, or even just your regular hardware vendor like ASUS. They don't really do retail distribution, and they don't ship to half the world when purchased through Steam.

These are intertwined reasons, and I wouldn't expect any changes right now.

I believe it's not shared, dedicated 16 GB RAM and 8 GB VRAM. I mean, that's your average (or even above average from Steam hardware survey) system, but games become very unreasonable in this regard, and modern (UE5, etc) titles scale pretty badly for lower end.

Yeah, the headset is ARM base, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

(If you saw earlier reply, I thought you were answering a different post and didn't check :D)
November 12, 2025 at 11:28 PM
Oh yeah, for sure! And even if they didn't release it officially, once it's out, it's out. The headset runs SteamOS, so Arch, so you can probably find a way to install it on any Linux on ARM pretty quickly :)

Right. And what's the relation to my post?
November 12, 2025 at 10:54 PM
Get yourself a Steam Frame, download Godot's Linux ARM build, and let it wrap your in a warm blanket of gamedev

Not soon enough!

Yeah, and despite it being PC-like, they describe both CPU and GPU as "semi-custom", so it's probably not very upgradable. Not that you can upgrade VRAM in general...

C'mon, we know you were talking about Mr. Store Steampowered himself. A respectable gent, no shame in that

Really shows the status of both things in the professional world, and it's incredibly cool to see!
