Seeds of our supposed E. arborea (1) do not match the description in the paper below and instead look like E. lusitanica seeds (2) however are larger. Hairs of our specimen do not appear to be branched (3) however are more crooked than E. lusitanica (4).

Today I reached 5000 @inaturalist.bsky.social observations looking for heathers (Erica arborea and Erica afra) with weedologists Trevor James and Paul Champion! Saw a couple other nice finds - rice paper plant and the rarer poroporo.

"A kahikatea forest remnant site in north Waikato has seen a near complete disappearance of tradescantia after the leaf beetle, stem beetle, and smut fungus all established there between 2019 and 2021. This site is now seeing recovery of native ferns and tree seedlings."

Lake Rotomanu closed to motorised boats after discovery of invasive clam
Taranaki Regional Council said it was unknown how the clams got into the lake, but the focus now was making sure they did not spread to other Taranaki lakes or rivers.

Thankfully this one isn't in New Zealand! Similar to Madagascar ragwort but more narrow leaved. Seems to grow in similar places to gravel groundsel rather than MR.
Lots of Narrow-leaved Ragwort beside the A55 this week giving a late splash of colour. A sign of things to come, it lines many, many miles of verges in France (last pic). And it’s flowers are so big & bright I might just grow it in the garden! #wildflowerhour @bsbibotany.bsky.social
