I hadn't given it in a thought until a friend called and said they were sorry to hear that it was the last issue. Like, baby, nobody pushes me around!

I really did! I hope you like the ending!

All things must.

I do like subtlety in storytelling, and a (all things considered) mundane setup allows me to focus more closely on details and clues. That stuff would be meaningless in an over-the-top sci-fi concept when you don't know what is or isn't normal. Sleep was a fun way to do that.

I don't know which style fits my strengths more completely-- it was fun to switch from an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach to a hide-all-my cards approach, and I think my storytelling style works reasonably well both ways, in that it privileges clarity above all else (of clues, jokes, etc)

I'm not exactly the person to come to for *happy* endings, per se, but for a certain flavor of catharsis, you can hardly do better!

I don't necessarily look at it as a progression, in the sense that it's progressing in a particular direction, but it's nice to try out things I hadn't done for the last ten years. Mainly I like taking a crack at various genres and seeing if my style-- which I can't break away from--can handle it.

It certainly flexed different muscles-- there were a lot of things i hadn't anticipated, like how noticeable subtleties in the lighting can be, and how fun it can be to research ordinary objects and render them faithfully, as opposed to the wing-it approach I used in Kaijumax.

Part of it was a reaction, in that I was interested in trying a different art approach -- both in terms of style and focus, but it was also something that had been sitting around in my notes for a while, and while it evolved during the process, it was always a black and white sort-of neo-noir.
