I broke down the ICE “reforms” being proposed by Dem leadership. tl;dr: They totally avoid touching ICE’s funding, in key ways actually increase ICE funding and instead focus on meaningless busywork like “body cams” and “more training”.

Whatever ICE agents say, it is a lie. Never believe a word.

They do violence to the truth as eagerly as they do violence to human beings.

They represent the most despicable aspects of all humanity. They will murder, kidnap, brutalize, and terrorize as long as they are permitted to.

Rise up.

THREAD. I don't know what there is left to say about the New York Times and Democrats, but documenting their support for authoritarianism still feels important. If there's any chance to walk back from the fascist cliff, we must see why things like today's article are so dangerous.

The new online vigilante portal to sign up to be a Brownshirt to deploy like a stormtrooper to brutalize poor people, immigrants, people of color, and anyone else who might dare to go to a protest is a development that should be one of the major news stories of the year. It's barely being mentioned.
Today’s Executive Order creating a *nationwide* military “quick reaction force” and setting up an online portal to permit random fascist vigilantes to join soldiers is one of the scariest things I’ve seen in U.S. politics in my adult life. Why is it not getting more attention?

Germans who lived as citizens under Nazi rule: They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933–45, Milton Mayer:

"One doesn’t see exactly where or how to move. Believe me, this is true. Each act, each occasion, is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next..."

When the history of this fascist period is written, special attention will be paid to some of our epoch’s most grotesque figures: leaders of liberal nonprofits and think tanks. It’s incredible to see someone, at this moment, put their name on this quote:

Good article about something too few have been talking about
The White House's memes about imprisonment, deportation, and death by alligator are designed to radicalize and desensitize.

“What you have is this desire to get people to buy into the fun of sadism,” says Jason Stanley, an author who’s leaving the US because of “concerns over fascism.”
The official voice of the US government Is cruel, gross, and weird. What is that doing to us?
Joking memes about imprisonment, deportation, and death by alligator are designed to radicalize and desensitize.

"In the room where I was detained, there were posters on the wall... it said in English, 'Are you detained and separated from your children?' ... We are normalizing family separation, we are normalizing due process rights violations, we are normalizing the destruction of constitutional democracy."
