Pretty soon I'm going to make a blog post about how we use SQLite in the @roomy.space web app.
zicklag.dev
It's actually quite convenient to take relational data and get JSON results out of multiple joined tables in using SQLite.

It's also surprisingly easy accomplish reactive queries with table granularity, without using any SQLite extensions or features not enabled in the official SQLite WASM build.

There's no reason that ActivityPub can't have a more PDS-like architecture, where identity & data are separated from applications, arguably that's what the C2S part of the spec was about.

But AT Protocol having amazing SDKs also enabled people to build and try new things quicker

Have just been working on email OTP for self-hosted PDSes, and I think I have it working correctly. I might need some extra logic in here for non-self-hosted but I'm not exactly sure what.

tbd on masking the email address though.

And yeah, my voice is a little hoarse at the moment >_>

Great post, thanks!

We deployed our latest code and new architecture to roomy.space, but things are still very experimental.

We are able to use the UI work from the previous version of Roomy, but it isn't "plugged in" yet, so most features are not fully functional.

Getting those things working again is th next step!

Heads up!

roomy.chat is now called @roomy.space!

Roomy will let you start with chat, but grow that into so much more long term.

The new name reflects the nature of giving you room to share whatever you need in your personal and communal spaces.

Someone actually hosted a static website right off the PDS at some point, if I recall correctly.

I don't know what it was exactly to search and find it again, though.

I don't think size is an issue when blobs for images can be quite large.

I think the big chunk missing right now to fully use atproto without bsky is for independent appviews to stop adopting their bans, and to achieve real full independence we need lighter appviews. The relays are kinda optional, by the way

ATProto Isn't What You Think
This post takes a look at ATProto from a different angle, and explores the value of some possibly less-noticed pieces of it.

Can we get a public ‘Open Social’ events calendar going on as a crowdsourced resource on @smokesignal.events ?

I’m lacking a reliable answer to the question ‘what events pertaining to the open social web are happening this month?’

Would need to support entry of off-protocol listings.

Retention isn’t about trapping people in subscriptions.

It’s about delivering so much value that they want to stay.

Most “marketing hacks” focus on chasing sales.
But here’s the truth: if every touchpoint with your customer delivers real value, sales follow naturally.
Value builds trust → trust builds loyalty.

Nice to hear a marketing manager say these things. 😄

It feels like 99% of businesses don't think that way, but delivering real value is huge part of the premise for the businesses I want to start.

I'm not convinced horrible-to-people hacks are the only way to make a business profitable.

@danabra.mov has been on a bit of a tear with a really good mantra: "we can just do things". It feels like there's something in the air as of late, too - tooling, community, and network effects feel like they're finally hitting an inflection point in ATProto. Can we get at it with data? 🧵

This strikes me as the crux of how the knowledge economy now looks way more like the service economy: we need to remain a high source of signal in the eyes of our peers by gating out the slop.

okay so. i want to fix the "random logouts" problem. i'll be sending PRs but i hope somebody on the bsky side can take point on reviewing them. i'll happily iterate on reviews but i don't want them to get stuck in limbo. @hailey.at @samuel.bsky.team any volunteers from the team on reviews?

Big win. Now you can leave Bluesky AND return to their servers if you wanted to.

Folks who migrated to blacksky.app, myatproto.social, and cryptoanarchy.network were taking a leap of faith move over to servers hosted by Blacksky Algorithms.

Hopefully this de-risks things for folks.
