Reading The Pillow Book cause of @kyotako.bsky.social and it's really fun. We tend to think of ancient people as serious because we mostly learn of wars and other serious events and then you get an account of building snow mountains in the garden and complaining about crying babies in the night.

I'm a very casual fan of chess but the news of Daniel Naroditsky really hit me. Aside from being a great chess player of course he was also one of my favorite chess commentators. He made me feel like even I knew what was going on and I always enjoyed his content. RIP ❤

I kept holding off getting a new phone as long as possible (as we all should!) but now it's really starting to die after 8 years. If anyone knows which phone/brand I'd do the least amount of damage to people as possible please recommend - bonus points if I can get rid of any AI bullshit.

It's been many years since I drew with dip pens and I totally forgot how concentrated you have to be while drawing. You have to really focus are on the pressure you are applying in that very moment (compared to pens which have one size and you go back over your lines to adjust the line weight)

Out of curiosity I looked up how painting with oil paints works...The amount of flammable and/or toxid stuff needed would have my ADHD butt in the ER SO FAST 💀 (and from my lab days I heard how 'competent' they are there (generally) when you say you swallowed smth toxid/got smth in your eyes 💀💀💀)

If A.I. is so powerful, why does every 2000 word article about how powerful it is mostly come down to "it summarises, it translates, it fumbles when you try and make it do actual work, some software engineers like it, also it doesn't know anything and thus cannot truly be trusted"?
