Queer discourse needed a “can’t be seen by straight people flag” because it leads to straight white guys confidentially asserting only black people do drag and thinking this is being informed and intersectional

Reminding me of similar thinking I’ve been doing around mise en place and the value of taking time to set things up before you start your work

Giving people ownership over their legal name isn’t just about cutting red tape, it’s about helping trans people to safely travel, work, and access social services.

Sorry but it’s extremely weird to call yourself a “gig worker” (which describes a very specific kind of job) when you are in fact a freelance writer

On the one hand, an absolute clown and basically a republican won for Ridgewood’a city council seat, on the other hand I think that if we’re loud enough we can push him on a lot of shit

I’ve seen a few late deafened people on here talking about the struggles which are real! And I’m not going to hop into a strangers mentions but if you become late deafened you should really learn ASL

Fascinating litmus test in the QTs etc of who is actually familiar with the Satmar and who is going off vibes of “ultra Orthodox Jews”
🚨 BIG 🚨Satmar Ahronim sect is endorsing Mamdani for mayor, two sources familiar confirmed.

Mamdani is expected to meet with Satmar leaders in Williamsburg this afternoon.

Here is more background ⬇️ forward.com/fast-forward...
Why Satmar Hasidic leaders endorsed Zohran Mamdani as mayor, stunning many Jewish voters
The Satmar Hasidic community’s endorsement of Zohran Mamdani for NYC mayor shows the broad coalition built by the democratic socialist and Muslim.

I’ve never seen such progressive / left confusion around what to do about ballot measures as this year

Obviously the need for accessible stations trumps everything else, but it’s wild how poorly subway infrastructure integrates the needs of bike commuters

Thank god COVID discourse either doesn’t exist here or hasn’t hit my radar because over on twitter they’re arguing that actually, weaponizing HIV stigma is good

There are many people on here who are either ignorant (or idea logically motivated) of the fact that BDS comes directly from Palestinian activists

everything about my jobs and job searching experience right now feels like it’s designed to slowly drive me insane

I fully get the intent behind this, nuance, blah blah but I really hate when covid cautious people talk (nearly always with a negative framing) about “rawdogging the air“

I’m not saying BDS is a perfect tactic or even necessarily the right one, but it is always revealing how people critical of it seem to go entirely off vibes / assumptions and make very little effort to learn like, extremely public information

I understand the value and the need in certain situations to make people mindful of the fact that COVID is still a very present public health issue, but because I’m petty I do notice how many people who complain about “during COVID” being incorrect use “during AIDS” type language
Maybe unpopular take but I think "during COVID" is fine!
Death data show a clear acute phase from spring 2020 until spring 2022. Since then deaths have steadily trended downward and this winter fell below flu deaths. You can take COVID seriously and still talk about the worst of it in the past tense

Regardless of my feelings about the NYT, it’s always funny when people get mad about the New York paper doing New York based stories for New Yorkers just because it also has national prominence

vaguely non binary leftist zinester who has “detransitioned” (removed pronouns from bio) and now has to sell a zine about their complicated takes (standard anti-trans bullshit with more ~nuanced~ language) is one of my least favorite types of people
