1h

Scientists warned that the Earth was closer than previously thought to climate tipping points that could trigger self-reinforcing warming and lock the planet into a harder-to-reverse "hothouse Earth."

Very disturbing set of news.. 1) point-of-no-return climate warming getting closer, and 2) it is a scientific fact that scientific warnings don't work anymore (if they have ever) (the second post in this thread quoted below)
‘Point-of-no-return’: Lock-in of a hellish ‘hothouse Earth’ getting closer, warn scientists

- Continued global heating could set an irreversible course by triggering tipping points, but the public and politicians are largely unaware

Individual climate action is crucial.

And here are ways to really find your climate “superpowers”!
Family. Work. Community. Our planet. They all need tending to, right now. 😮‍💨

🌍 SHIFT takes ONE thing off your plate: figuring out how to actually help the climate.

Almost certainly. Also one expects exponential rather than linear growth so long as amelioration is weak. Percentage change not linear change in CO2. Scary.
🆕 Several Earth system components may be closer to destabilisation than previously thought. Crossing key temperature thresholds could trigger feedback loops, pushing the planet toward a “Hothouse Earth” trajectory. Study by @oregonstate.edu, @iiasa.ac.at & PIK: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
