i browned the mirepoix w tomato paste to get some fond, then stewed it in 2c stock for awhile. then discarded the mirepoix, added 2q stock, 1c barley, 3c raw mirepoix, 1lb cooked shredded chicken breast, simmer for 30min. add chopped parsley last 10-15 minutes. i also put some turmeric and paprika

2C AP Flour, 1 C gran sugar, 2 TBL bak pwdr, 1tsp salt, Whisk together. Then whisk 1/2c mltd bttr, 1c milk, 1 LG egg, 2 tsp vanilla, add to & whisk with dry. Mix 1/2c brown sugar, 2tsp cinamn, w 2 tsp mltd butter. 1/2 of batter in 9" loaf, then 1/2 brown sug mix, repeat. Swirl. 325 about 60.

I disagree w/ anyone who says baking isn’t forgiving. Dense bread = bread pudding. A gouged cobbler = a trifle. Today, dry kuchen gets extra icing & covering before fully cool, & it will be perfect tomorrow evening. You just need imagination—or 1c of butter/ shortening and 1.75c sugar in my case.
