He’s been ineffective at best. Flat out bad at worst. Glimmers of the real TK.
Love this

Is it? I’m only looking at American forwards for Olympic selection purposes. I’m using P/GP bc some teams have played 20% more games than others. He’s a top 10 American forward and Team USA will carry 14ish Fs? He should be in that conversation.
Trevor Zegras ranks 8th in P/GP among American NHL Forwards who have played at least 10 games. #Olympics #NHL #USAhockey

Ya that's not exactly great value either. They paid full freight for Lindros bc they were competing with NYR. Zegras deal was a straight up rip off bc ANA is a terribly run org and Verbeek a bad GM who helped drive Zegras out of town.
great trade! but in terms of value, they sent a future HOFer in Mark Recchi to MTL. Love Ryan Poehling but I don't think he's headed for the Hall.
It wouldn't surprise me if Levi's name came up as part of the package Briere wants to secure from Buffalo that would likely center around a Defenseman like Byram or Dahlin. Don't see the fit for Levi at the moment.
Dykhuis was a solid Flyer but didn't know Dailey until just now. Both good ones, John!
I said at the time that the Zegras trade was the best trade ( in terms of value) in Flyers history. That seems even more true now that he looks like a PPG player. Was the Zegras deal the best trade in Flyers history? If not, which? #LetsGoFlyers

The Flyers are making the playoffs. Book it.
I’m floored by it every night. Hope the offense comes now!

Zegras and Drysdale 👀
I still cannot believe Angelo’s opened a location in Wilmington. #LetsGoFlyers
I'm optimistic that the Flyers will be open to having Andrae in the lineup once they add Risto to the equation. Without Risto the Flyers have a D corps that is both young-ish and small-ish. In December Risto will the D pairs the same structure that the offensive lines found in mid October.
I tend to think Drysdale will jump up to the top pair play with Sanheim and suddenly the TOI distribution will be a bit more even and sustainable with this structure:

Sanheim-Drysdale
York-Ristolainen
Seeler-Andrae
7th: Juulsen
On the Defensive side, @charlieoconn.bsky.social outlined it better than anyone can. Go read it. What will be interesting to see in terms of this group pushing into another gear, is how this D group will look with Rasmus Ristolainen added to it.
The Flyers' defense has done a great job given the circumstances! Wrote about it last week: allphly.com/flyers-defen...

That said, it's been driven by the top-4. Small sample caveat, but you want sheltered 3rd pair guys doing better than:

Juulsen: 42.1% xG
Zamula: 42.0%
Ginning: 40.6%
A weakness turned strength? Undermanned Flyers defense corps quietly very impressive in early going - PHLY Sports
On paper, the Flyers' blueline corps to start the season looked like their Achilles heel. Instead, through seven games, it's been arguably their biggest strength.

This line structure has been united for a week and is still coming together but it's the most logical set we've seen in quite a while. If/when they get more production from the top line, while the Zegras/Michkov and Cates lines are thriving, the offensive numbers will spike.

Now we wait.
A week ago (10/23 v. OTT) Toc landed on a line structure that makes sense. It took >30 days of trial/error with various line combos in camp, pre- and regular season to get to a structure that works:

Tippett-Couturier-TK
Dvorak/Zegras-MM39
Foerster-Cates-Brink
Grebenkin/DLo-Abols-Hathaway
With the Flyers playing their 10th game tonight, they've done an admirable job of squeezing points out of a tough schedule thus far as they've adapt to their new coach/system. I also think they have another gear or two to go from here.
I listened to a bit of Morganti and Sullivan's podcast and Al was quick to point out that we're seeing the Flyers new development organization succeed in real time. There are multiple success stories already: Cates, Brink, Foerster, Tippett and now these defenseman who are playing really well:

Jett Luchanko is being traded to Windsor to play with Jack Nesbitt?! #LetsGoFlyers
If Jett crushes WJC, Guelph will be able to name their price ahead of the OHL Trade Deadline on Jan 10. It would be really fun if he’s ultimately dealt to Windsor where he’d have a real shot at a Memorial Cup run w/Jack Nesbitt. Worst case he stays in Guelph and reports back to LV for final 10 games

My take on the Jett assignment to OHL: One part performance, he did not look like a player "kicking the door down" to turn pro by any stretch and one part the Flyers finding a line structure that left Luchanko on the outside looking in.

🤞PLEASE TRADE HIM TO WINDSOR TO PLAY WITH NESBITT!🤞
I wouldn't be surprised if their talking points are less about Jett's performance and more about the line structure finally coming together. What they have with Tip/C/TK, Dvo/Z/Mich, Cates line and Greb/Abols/Hath makes sense. Abols size is welcome in that spot too. Don't think Jett really fit.

China bought 27 million metric tons of soybeans from US farmers in 2024. But somehow this “deal” to buy significantly less is a huge victory.
