Wow, Eric Dolphy was planning on forming a band with Albert Ayler!
Angeles. then briefly in his hometown of Cleveland. He left the USA for Sweden of frustration playing and recording there during 1962-63 (including with Taylor) before relocating to New York in 1963 and establishing his brief and brilliant career in avant-garde jazz. His and Eric's paths crossed later that year, and Dolphy promised to form an ensemble with him in the months before his death

Although still-life ensembles were an important element in many of the major paintings of the avant-garde artist Édouard Manet, his most sustained interest in the genre itself was from 1864 to 1865, when Fish was painted. Manet’s focus on still lifes coincided with the gradual reacceptance of the genre during the nineteenth century, due in part to the growth of the middle class, whose tastes ran to intimate, moderately priced works. This painting, like many of Manet’s still-life compositions, recalls seventeenth-century Dutch models. The directness of execution, bold brushwork, and immediacy of vision displayed in the canvas, however, suggest why the public found Manet’s work so unorthodox and confrontational. While Fish is indeed an image of “dead nature” (nature morte is the French term for still life), there is nothing still about the work: the produce seems fresh and the handling of paint vigorous. Further enliven-ing the composition is the placement of the carp, which offsets the strong diagonal of the other elements. Manet never submitted his still lifes to the official French Salon but rather sold them through the burgeoning network of art galleries in Paris and gave them to friends. Contrary to the article I read in Bookforum, the avant-garde is not a US-only avant-garde, is not unified - and that's its strength. If you want to find out about the best new movements and transformations of poetry, you better not be looking for "an" avant-garde, and you better look to translation.

If nothing else, it would make a compelling documentary about the creative process. and the chaos around it. Just promise the bonfire scene has strong cinematography.

Wilhelm Lehmbruck made his avant-garde breakthrough in 1911 with Kneeling Girl, an over-life-size figure whose expressive melancholy and elongated proportions established the artist’s reputation as an important German Expressionist sculptor. In Bust of Kneeling Girl, he isolated the sculpture’s most poignant passage—the pensive gesture of the tilted head—by provocatively cropping the figure at the midpoint of the breasts. Contemporary critics compared Kneeling Girl and Bust of Kneeling Girl to Gothic sculpture, at the time understood to communicate emotional and spiritual truth more directly than classical academic art. Lehmbruck debuted both sculptures at the Salon d’Automne in Paris, but they achieved their greatest impact in Germany, where the artist returned in 1914 after four years in France. Pour moi cela revient à ajouter une couche d'abstraction, donc si 100 personnes connaissaient le sujet avant, une partie va suivre dans la couche d'abstraction, une autre va rester pour 'faire l'arrière-garde'. On ne perd jamais entièrement les compétences, en tout cas c'est pas arrivé.
