FWIW, A Memory Called Empire (@ArkadyMartine) and Gideon the Ninth (@tazmuir) were among my favorite reads of last year, and I'd recommend all of the other books mentioned here that I've read.

@BlogSpells 2021 SFF virtual badge event: Space Opera. A Memory Called Empire by @ArkadyMartine. I binged this book - couldn't put it down. My Teixcaalanli name is 13 Kaikomako (diminutive Pen) & I both love and abhor the Empire, as many of its citizens do. Hope there's a sequel.
