Rather than courting int'l sports on the take, that €10m could've:

- bought hurling and football rights for free TV
- gone into the merger of men's/women's GAA
- bettered handball and rounders structures
- gone into recognition of collar-&-elbow, the bataireacht

Firstly, a bataireacht fighting game sounds class.

Secondly, we have this list on Steam, lots of Irish indie made games and some on Irish culture. A good few available in Irish as well.

Games developed in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, from Irish creators, or playable in the Irish language (Gaeilge).

Zero likes, and I'll talk about how cultural soft power is designed specifically to exclude or crowd out smaller cultures, languages, identities, etc., especially former colonies.

Where the fuck are my collar-and-elbow and bataireacht-based fighting games, you cowards?

Bartitsu, yeah, and also various stick fighting arts used to be practiced all over the place. La canne, Bataireacht, Bastone, etc. all use a 3' stick or so, and these work just fine with an umbrella as long as it's reasonably solid.

Plus I guess if you get tired you can lean on it.

I love my raven skull cane! I was watching some videos about Irish stick fighting (bataireacht) on YouTube. The videos went over some basics, like how to hold and hit. Didn't have to spin, but then again, I haven't done much in terms of practicing. Would love to learn more though.

#Baltimore rad queer folks, this is a free workshop for the bata-curious! Come thru!

(Bataireacht or just Bata = Irish stick fighting. If you're intimidated by the grace & coordination of most martial arts, this is a super fun & accessible brawler style – I fondly think of it as trans fight club!)

My main practice is Uechi-Ryu karate... very practical for self-defence. I also have an affinity for blunt weapons (staff, cane, sticks), so do some Arnis, Kung-fu and recently some Bataireacht. Honestly, it's all moving meditation and play, so the style doesn't matter so much as what I put into it.

Give me a movie where one of the few masters of Bataireacht (Irish stick fighting) travels to Central America in search of a missing partner/family member. There he gets into a misunderstanding fight with a master of machete fencing before they team up and go after the evil American billionaire.
I’m a little confused about why I cannot right now watch the a 12-movie series about the last master of Afro-Colombian machete fencing. That feels like an oversight by someone.

Did you know, Ireland has its own unique form of Martial Art ⁉️
It’s a form of stick fighting called - Bataireacht.
It’s being used by a character in Gangs Of London
