I'm desperate to get out but trapped in a #BuildingSafetyCrisis unsellable flammable cladding flat... 😵‍💫
January 15, 2026 at 6:07 PM
Will there be meaningful change on the key issues of non-cladding defects, non-qualifying leaseholders, extortionate buildings insurance or shared ownership buybacks in 2026?

We aren’t holding our breath.

❌ Serious fire risks assessed as being "tolerable", homes left half-safe at best.

❌ The Government deflects to industry, flats remain unsellable, leaseholders are still trapped.

The merry-go-round of buck-passing continues.

The Building Safety Regulator's issues have left leaseholders waiting nine months for works. It could also impact Labour's 1.5m-home target.

Despite strong rhetoric in opposition, Labour’s commitment to building safety is increasingly in doubt.

This drift typifies Labour’s approach so far: governing by targets rather than delivering the change voters expected.

Is Labour betraying cladding victims to meet its housing targets?
By prioritising building houses over building safety, the government is ignoring its own post-Grenfell promises — and putting lives at risk

Today I asked the Deputy Mayor what he's doing to resolve the #buildingsafetycrisis in East Village. I'll be following up on his offer of a proper meeting to discuss how we fix this for suffering leaseholders.

1️⃣ year today since the "Remediation Acceleration Plan" announcement.

The only "change" leaseholders have seen is a new Housing Secretary and Minister for Building Safety.

MHCLG are still dragging their feet.

Labour are still far from keeping their manifesto promises.

Looks like another #BuildingSafetyCrisis compartmentation failure. The fire has spread across all the dwellings on the top floor.

I'm guessing from the architecture it is a '90s, or later, building.

Nothing will solve the housing crisis until the #BuildingSafetyCrisis is fixed, which will take decades and decades. Tens of thousands of first-time buyers are still trapped in unsafe, unsellable flats which is still paralysing the first rung of the housing ladder.
