Oh, I just made a bump map image and drew over it, then used some image editing tools to convert that black/white bumpmap into a full normalmap and tried to tidy it up a little.

So, to clarify, those insets aren't part of the geometry, it's just normals, hope this helps!

A bumpmap maybe?
I think it'd be prob easier prerendering the protrusion and animating it externally, kinda like a fade-in overlay, that's probably how the original is done anyway

Bit further and testing out some addons for blender today. Bagapie seems interesting so far. I think it's pretty customizable from what i've read so i'll have to keep messing with it. The default ivy looks nice though so it's kinda worth it just for that tbh.

Looks great! Love the setting and overall layout. Foliage is especially good. Maybe the bumpmap on the red railing is a bit too much but great job!!

fuck it since i cant find an actually good vaporeon model for my project idea, ill just bodyhack something. also test render with goodra apparently the bumpmap was making goodra look weird so i got rid of it and she looks smooth. and yes goo is part of my project idea.

I very much might raise the prices, now that I'm putting a little more effort than last time, adding a special bumpmap on the models to have the light reflect it a special way, but I'll think of how much I'll increase it in the future, college started for me so I won't have time to do comms atm.

I know its not the point of the post but I hate whenever people do this they have such inconcistent focuses- yes lets do dynamic volumetric clouds and visible grass blades- the under texture will be a flat green square and the rest will be babies first bumpmap of the N64 textures

Think I'm finding an aesthetic I like for this project. Unlit shader using vertex colors for 4 texture blending (RGB) with alpha used for painting shadows.

Also included Unity's Surface Bumpmap Package (URP) to get Hex Tiling to break texture repetition.

i really don't see where you see the, like, bumpmap lines indicating popplio-esque fur on vaporeon

the bumpmapping on vaporeon is almost perfectly smooth

I find it interesting how the material splatoon labels as "transmission" is actually basically just a bumpmap simulator. Models like splattershot Jr, planetz swig, and glitterz l3 achieve that 3d surface look using a flat texture that tells the game how far inwards to project itself. Awesome

ちなみに岩や草、コンクリートなどの写真素材を使うのもあります。ただし上田さんの指示でそれをそのまま使うのは禁止でした。それをBumpMapの素材としてグレーの階調にして使ったりします。先ほどの岩も写真の凹凸を利用してるかもしれません。(作っている本人もどうやって作ったか覚えてないくらい複雑なレイヤーになっています)

wait, so is the displacement defined by a bumpmap texture? And if so, what rez is it at? Because I see the slopes around the bricks... or is that the 'blending' you're referring to?

A bumpmap making method test for a photo I took of the stuff underneath some tiles that were pulled up. I don't think it was actually concrete, but we did complain about how the material used was not appropriate for where it was put. It does look like it though.
