Whoever Jeanne was they kicked medieval English and Burgundian arse and their murder was a travesty.
Between the Ladybird book and the OMD single they played a massive part in my love for history from a young age. youtu.be/vmwMhjbThKg

Yolande of France, Duchess of Savoy To celebrate the US and Canadian release of The Formidable Women Who Shaped Medieval Europe: Power and Patronage at the Burgundian Court, Here's an article about one of the most resourceful women in the book, Yolande of France. Purchase book here: Amazon Canada Amazon US Amazon UK Yolande of France was an exceedingly resourseful woman. The eldest surviving daughter of King Charles VII of France and Marie of Anjou, she was born in Tours on September 23, 1434. Following the conclusion of a marriage treaty betweeen Yolande and the grandson of Amadeus VIII, Duke of Savoy, Yolande left France for the court of Savoy to be given a proper education and learn the language, customs and traditions of her adopted country.

Beware gifts fm strangers! Irish St Maimbod (d 880),wandering preacher in France & Italy, accepted gloves fm a Burgundian noble who asked for his prayers.Near Besançon, he was clubbed & stabbed to death by bandits who, seeing the gloves, thought he was rich.Blind abp regained sight thanks to relics.

St Vincent and the Consolation of Angels, a 13th Century Burgundian roundel now in the Stained Glass Museum, Ely. St Vincent is relieved of his torture and welcomed by angels into heaven. His torturers, left, look on, terrified, as well they might.

Today's the feast of St Vincent, 3rd Century Spanish protomartyr. His martyrdom depicted in 13th Century Burgundian glass, now in the Stained Glass Museum, Ely. He's roasted on a grid iron, while a gleeful torturer, top right, throws salt on his wounds. Gruesome stuff.

- In spite of how completely deranged the Burgundian culture, religion, and ruling family are, they have stayed on good terms with almost every pope so far. This is mostly in order to avoid a Crusade against them.

- The Court Language of Burgundy is not Burgundian (Anglic in CK3 terms), but Russian (East Slavic in CK3 terms). This is because Godgifu I's father was Novgorodian, and likely means that the Burgundian culture is weirdly Russophilic or Slavophilic in general.

- There are MANY minority religions in Burgundy because the Burgundian culture has the Religion Blending tradition, the Church of Burgundy is pluralistic, and I used the Influence Ward Personality interaction to ensure every monarch since Godgifu I had the Compassionate personality trait

- The Burgundian culture's a weird Anglo-Saxon/Occitan/Swabian hybrid with a Communal ethos, Equal martial gender tradition, Anglic Language, Central Germanic heritage, and the traditions Chivalry, Collective Lands, Matriarchal, Mountain Homes, Parochialism, Philosopher Culture, & Religion Blending)

Or—going even further back in time—the alabaster arcade carved by Claus Sluter in the late 14th century for the tomb of Philip the Bold at #Champmol, a high point of Burgundian sculpture. 🦢 Especially delightful is the theatrical evocation of the #Banquet of the Pheasant ... [4/6]

💫What a delightful start of 2026!

This weekend I travelled to Venlo - in Dutch #Limburg - to visit “Burgundians in Limburg” (Limburgs Museum): a wonderful exhibition on the #Burgundian splendour of the late 14th- and 15th-century #Meuse region. [1/6]

In a changing climate, I already drink New World wines/am prepared to chalk one up for the South Downs - Beware of the Bull - but, and maybe it's just because somebody looks nicely Burgundian today (I'm not no Lemberger), as a Patriot, I think I may need to quaff Ad'OC until Truth or Consequences.

The Burgundian in Tangletown. Incredibly high quality chicken and waffles, and in the glory days you could get a glass of Pappy 15 for $20 to wash it down.

My annoyance at that thing where Arthurian works like to depict the knights in 1400s plate armor, or how the original cover of Catherine Called Birdy showed her in Burgundian dress when the book is explicitly set in the late 13th century

The Burgundian flair for extravagant living and phenomenal parties became legendary so we still call people who enjoy life, good food and drink, a ‘Bourgondier’.

Ironically the Burgundian drive to centralise their power forced the many independent cities and mini-states of the Low Countries to work together to counter that, laying the foundation for their future union into my country, the Netherlands 🇳🇱
