#CGCookie
I know it's past spooky season. But this example by CGCookie on material sphere painting is a great example of how to improve at rendering for #handpainted #gameart texture painting.

They partnered with @cgcookie to help promote the campaign!
As well as provide a discount code in the rewards.

So, backers in certain rewards tiers would get a discount on CG Cookie's offerings.

A perfect example of how cross-promoting can help indie devs.

Everyone from the CGCookie crew! But since their main account is here already, it's just a matter of time probably

If you’ve been thinking of learning #blender you couldn’t do better than #cgcookie to help on your journey.

Something like this might give you good insight Ben: youtu.be/FNhUnPWzVaw?...

And I'm not sure if you have a sub to CGCookie, but they have an older course that touches on rendering through a network or a Dropbox/GDrive. I can track the particular video if you do.

Been chewing through the cgcookie tutorials and having a blast I'm blown away and how good the piano came out.

2nd pic for the geometry breaking up the keys with shake keys is genius and works so well

Started hammering away at CGCookie courses again after a break and as you can see, it's going pretty ok!

Dikko and CGCookie are very good channels for this! I would say to focus on sculpting your character in an A pose first, though.

@_Plonie :-)) thank you! @cgcookie

I used to feel the same way but there are many great, free tutorials that make things a lot easier (CGCookie has great ones). It's also less overwhelming if you keep in mind you only need to learn what a fraction of the tools / buttons do to start making things.

Give CGCookie a try. They used to do Digital Art and all its accompanying forms (2D, 3D, etc.), but they've converted to only offering Blender classes. It's pretty awesome.

Figure this is the first time I'm sharing my work publicly as I'm often shy about stuff, but after finishing a tutorial from CGCookie, I was proud of this. First thing I did from start to finish.

I followed a #blender #animation #tutorial by #cgcookie I got on humble bundle some months back. I feel pretty confident with creating #keyframes and managing them so that there aren't unnecessary keyframes and I control #interpolation now.

I recommend CGCookie and BlenderSecrets on Youtube

If you want some free-to-use 3D models, I recommend thebasemesh.com
The Base Mesh | 100% Free CC0 Assets
- 3D Models - TheBaseMesh - Every model adheres to real-world scale and comes with basic UVs, so you can get to making those all-important creative decisions faster.

I’ve done CGCookie and made some donuts (I know). I’m now on to Grant Abbitt’s exercises. When I’m done those I’ll look to see how I might customize it but in the mean time I thought I’d ask. It looked more natural to me than using G,R, and S + axis hot keys. (Though I’m getting faster with it.)

Finally finished the 3D logo course on #cgcookie and here is the result. I could've spent more time getting everything perfect, but shortly I'll be creating my own 3D logo and will work on perfection there.

In your shoes i'm starting with Blender and doing some course there. cgcookie has a great course that I went through myself to learn the fundamentals of the tool a couple years ago. From there you can learn a real time game engine like Unreal and figure out the things you'd like to make.

the more practice the better. and i kinda massacred the original topo in the fitting process. so a retopo is the best course of action to clean up.
retopoflow is my goat though. you can get an old version for free on their github. incredible tool for modders :3

I know #blender has a huge amount of youtube content available, but there is so much, and as a beginner it's hard to gauge merit when you don't know anything. I am internally debating paying for a structured course, one of the popular ones like CGBoost or CGCookie. I just don't knowwwww 😔
September 5, 2025 at 7:35 PM
im going off of memory because either the tutorials i used dont exist anymore (youtube is genuinely, the best place for blender tuts for any version) or cgcookie made them and i dont want to support the cgcookie guy
November 7, 2025 at 11:54 PM
So a game design course would teach me basically what CGCookie taught me, how to model stuff, animate stuff, drop it into Unity and write code to make it do things? And it misses that I don't know how to make it do interesting/challenging things?

#CGI wave sequence made in #blender, i think it turned out really well and i am really enjoying the courses by #CGcookie
