This is ridiculous "what if AI is the way to restart the world's idea machine?" Anything but addressing the climate crisis and making things affordable.

Meet the early doomer.

The early doomer wants you to give up before we even start. Most of them are on the left and tend to care only about trending stuff. The more this stuff makes everyone forget about the climate crisis, the more they care about it.

Largely concentrated in the US for now

@aaronsmith377.bsky.social has spent his life trying to tell stories. In recent years, with the help of his guitar, he's tried to bring attention to some of the world's current problems, such as gun violence, the climate crisis, and the return of fascism.

It's makes me furious. I would love to vote for a proper green party. I am terrified about the climate crisis. But this fecking shower? I am willing to allow that they were junior partners and could only achieve so much, but Janey Macaroni they were mad into the auld data centres, for example.

How politicians and businesses should talk about clean energy and climate change in a cost-of-living crisis
Read the full story in Fast Company. As electric bills keep soaring, Trump has tried to blame clean energy for the higher prices. But new research suggests the public isn’t buying it—and that clean energy could soon own the affordability argument. A new briefing from the nonprofit Potential Energy Coalition looks at how to talk about clean energy in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis, when some advocates have suggested talking less about climate change as a reason to move away from fossil fuels.

"listen, we CANT regulate AI for at least a decade. Why? Definitely NOT because making the climate crisis worse offers lucrative opportunities based on clean water, air and food becoming more scarce. Not that at all. Use the Robots, poors. We love them more than you"
Ai being pushed on us so ferociously is a reminder that companies will always sell us shit they know is bad for us with a smile. Here are some vintage ads for plastic, Cigarettes (endorsed by a Dr), and Candy as a source of healthy energy. Oh! Can't forget the magic of asbestos!

The climate emergency and the AI crisis are separate issues, but they share many similarities.

On our current trajectory, both of these crises threaten to upend civilisation in the short to medium term. Thus, they’re equal urgent priorities which require equal urgent attention.

Unbelievably,we know that the vast majority of people still don’t understand that we’re already in the middle of a full-blown climate crisis. Would a consensus on THE key climate data make a difference? Check out @ChathamHouse article -

The climate crisis and global migration are closely linked. Emancipatory forces must demand and defend the right to be able to leave, but not to have to leave. This means defending and expanding asylum rights. Our article @maxpichl.bsky.social is now online in English! www.wsi.de/en/wsi-blog-...

that's costlier in money of course, because everything in the US (and especially LA) is deemed more valuable and therefore more expensive to replace - meanwhile death tolls around the world from the climate crisis have been so much more catastrophic, the losses of homes and land and loved ones vast

The Thawing Frontier: Why South Asia’s Old Rivalries Are a Luxury the Climate Won’t Allow
The Frontier of the Crisis At the mouth of the Indus Delta, where the river once fanned confidently into the Arabian Sea, a farmer named Jameel surveys what remains of his land. The soil, once pliant and generous, has turned brittle. Saltwater intrusion—an unwelcome guest carried inland by rising seas and dwindling freshwater flows—has rendered his fields unrecognizable. “The river has changed,” he says, with the matter‑of‑fact resignation of someone who has run out of alternatives.

Transcript: Life on Earth depends on freshwater, which appears on land in many different forms. Famiglietti: “As snow and ice and glaciers and surface water and rivers and lakes and our reservoirs, in the water in the soils, and in our groundwater.” But Jay Famiglietti of Arizona State University says that as the climate warms, many of these freshwater sources are dwindling.
