The climate crisis is the fight of our time. But it’s also an opportunity to build a more just and resilient world for future generations.

We're thrilled to announce that Nina Lakhani will be joining Drilled as senior global climate justice reporter in January, based in Mexico City. We've long admired her incredible ability to tell the human stories of the climate crisis and can't wait to collaborate!
News: today is my last as climate justice reporter for @theguardian.com - a publication I've read for >30 years & worked for in different capacities/countries for 12+ years. I'm immensely proud of the work I've done, & so grateful to my colleagues, communities and sources along the way. Solidarity 🖤

Essay | The Climate Crisis Clashed With Affordability, and Affordability Won
Climate action has become less urgent now that affordability is top of mind. The good news is, emissions are likely to decline anyway.

Best description of the challenge of communicating the climate crisis I’ve ever read.
So much of parenting a child under the age of about two and a half is trying to explain to them that, whatever they are furious about, they actually did to themself

Somebody needs to write at length of the unhinged nonsense of calling academics critical of a monstrous technology, esp ones with direct expertise in formalism & implementation details: technopessimist. Are climate experts called pessimists for believing in & fighting against the climate crisis? 1/2

For those who continue to deny climate change crisis, it’s happening more frequently and with greater damage and loss of life. Denial is a fool’s response.

Next time a hurricane hits, would a reporter please ask Trump, if the damages happened because Trump inherited a disastrous climate crisis from Biden?

Trump might indeed run with it and say "yes, the climate is bad because of Biden", and — voila — climate change would finally be recognized by MAGA.

The thing I am asked the most is “what can I do?” Followed by “is there any point?”

I am not asked “Is the climate crisis real/bad?”

There’s your lever. It’s right there, with a big flashing light, and you still have people saying “no, no, don’t pull the lever, that’s hopium!”

As a science professional and public servant, I’ve seen firsthand the impacts of drought, wildfire, flooding and extreme weather events. Withdrawing from the Paris Accord in the midst of a climate crisis is a mistake.

Our Fight. Our Planet. Our Future. ✊🌍

10 years after the signature of the Climate Paris Agreement, the climate crisis is still escalating.

Yet far-right & conservative forces try to tear down climate protections and block progress.

Political courage is needed now.

No excuses. No delay. 💚

Sadly, I'm kind of used to >1700 dead after flooding in SE Asia & it not being high-profile in UK news.

But potentially 100 000 under evacuation orders in USA & it's still barely registering. We have normalised the climate crisis so quickly (BBC don't mention climate)

I hate when climate news frames these severe weather event as a "sneak peak" of the climate crisis... this IS the climate crisis! We're in it! It's here!
I talked to @heyjohnryan.bsky.social at KUOW about adapting to increasingly strong atmospheric rivers, and that reducing risk ultimately requires tackling GHG emissions.

"If we don't do that, atmospheric rivers are going to keep growing stronger...It's going to overwhelm our ability to respond.”
Northwest floods offer sneak peek of hotter climate's toll
“The science is clear that floods are going to become larger and more frequent in the future,” Washington State Climatologist Guillaume Mauger said.
