are these commercial crabapples or the native pacific crabapple? if commercial, the suckers are likely the root stock, which won't be great for eating, but could be pretty and improve cross pollination

I know spirea has pretty high success rates. Snowberry layers easily so I'd assume staking would work. I'm not sure how well crabapple would work, but trees don't often start by staking. However, if you've got access to stakes might as well try.

My crabapple tree was laden with fruit this year, was being the operative word as the redwing and blackbirds have now more or less stripped it. This image shows a redwing high in its branches with the prize of an entire crabapple in its beak, which it promptly flew off with to enjoy at its leisure.

The Cedar Waxwings were snacking on the plentiful fruits, too. I kept scanning to make sure a Bohemian hadn’t snuck in with them, because this is the kind of place that would happen. I always want to touch waxwings when I see them because their feathers are so glossy smooth😅
