I was reminded earlier today that I need to reconstruct my Twitter thread over here at some point on our backyard bird creek we made many years ago. Pinning this as point to start from whenever I can get to it. In the meantime, enjoy this fall Kinglet Pool Party. #birds

when i was recruiting for warming center volunteers in a wealthy suburb, several people at the farmers market didn’t understand what i meant. they had not considered once in their lives that some of *their very own neighbors* might freeze to death on the streets bc they have nowhere else to go
it’s a different kind of dehumanization of poverty but dehumanization nonetheless and just as deadly as the casual murder of the elite

Already said everything i care to say about Platner, you can't trick me into joining that discourse again.
I've known too many dumb young marines to care that Platner was a dumb young marine, saw a context-free tottenkopf tattoo parlor flash, and got the 'sick skull tat, bro' in Croatia.

I care that upon finding out as an adult that he had a nazi tattoo he didn't immediately, horrified, book a removal.

First flycatcher nest in LA County reported. Last year I spent more time obsessing with capturing videos of the nest feeding, over 40 hours during a work week, this year I'm planning to excel at buddy flycatcher season instead.
We're in my favorite era of a vermilion flycatchers life which I call "buddy flycatcher season" - these are the days following leaving the nest where they juveniles CAN fly, but CAN NOT catch, so their pudgy little selves just sit in trees begging, often nudging against their sibling 🥰😭🪶🐣

During the Eocene Epoch, 25 million years ago, parts of North America as far north as Oregon were covered with a sub-tropical forest that was nearly identical to the one found in Central America today. These large Brontotherium teeth only hint at the majestic size of a well preserved, adult skull.

Urge your reps to ban Surveillance Pricing and boycott any business that uses it. If it’s allowed to take root, you will be robbed for the rest of your lives.
(1/11) If you live in NY, you’ve probably started seeing a new warning: “THIS PRICE WAS SET BY AN ALGORITHM USING YOUR PERSONAL DATA.” This mandatory disclosure went into effect late last year, and it’s the first attempt by a US state to grapple with a new generation of surveillance pricing.

Same thing with billionaire baseball owners. If they whine about spending money they are free to sell their teams at huge profits to someone who wants to *try* to win.

Bob Nutting is replaceable. Paul Skenes is not.
What’s so weird about men in power is how when they face scandal and should step down the world acts like no one else can do their jobs. Bottstein, Wasserman, these aren’t irreplaceable men! Stop with this delusion.

I've seen people make that argument before, and the general line everyone else made was that giving yourself PTSD is going to make you a liability whenever it'd come to radical action.

You're not helping anyone, and it centres your own guilt over effective action to help the communities targeted.
i honestly believe that this idea that you have to subject yourself to every shocking horrifying image as part of "the fight" mostly manifests in people who are doing absolutely nothing to "fight" other than post on social media

because i never see it amongst people who are getting things done
not sure where this idea that you must continually subject yourself to horrible spectacle to stay committed to the fight came from. the more likely outcomes are total mental breakdown, or becoming the kind of person who rolls their eyes and posts a "shocked" meme when something terrible happens.

There is a Kinda Guy that is absolutely gaga for Gruff-Aesthetic White Guy Who Says Kinda Lefty Things. Their love for this is *not* strategic or instrumental to some end, such a person is an object of intrinsic attraction to them, and a strong one at that. They will rationalise anything for this.
I also am baffled that people are assuming this super checkered barely known guy will be super progressive as though we're not living in a post Fetterman universe.
