Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

I was surprised to see a pundit suggest Democrats take a “tactical pause” from fighting Trump and his cronies.

It’s unacceptable to sit back and let Republicans harm us. I wrote more on what I think we should be doing to fight back: katieporteroc.substack.com/p/this-shoul...
This shouldn't be a hot take: Democrats must fight back.
Now more than ever is the time for Democrats to get loud, to be persuasive, to offer new ideas, and to lead.

A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

Louise is some kind of shepherd, a combination of shepherds, a Malinois, Groenendael, something. Belgian, Dutch, German. She came from a rescue in Tennessee; some damn fool bred a litter of puppies…

There's something grotesquely ironic about foreign influences trying to move American views about white supremacy being outsourced to nonwhite countries with poor residents, laboring to normalize racist messaging.
"Elon Musk’s social media site X has rolled out a new feature in an effort to increase transparency — and unwittingly revealed that many of the site’s top MAGA influencers are actually foreign actors."

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.
