NEW: ICE has a plan to lease offices across the US as part of a secret, months-long expansion campaign.

Today, @wired.com is publishing dozens of those locations. Many are near schools, medical offices, and places of worship.

Vital work from @leahfeiger.bsky.social that I'm proud to publish.

Highlights from judging the elementary school science fair.

An investigation of which household objects conduct electricity.

Can cheese conduct electricity? Apparently so.

Me: You and cheese both conduct electricity. What do you two have in common?
Student: We are both thick
Me: Ah yes of course

(Horrifyingly they needed that to meet the intensive parenting expectations of that class with 3+ kids. Of course many rather less rich parents are subject to the same expectations without being able to afford all the nannies, which is why so many of the moms you know are having a breakdown)

I taught at a boarding school once and there were definitely families with multiple nannies and that was certainly unlike when I went to public school in West Virginia!

I’m glad to see people protesting Discord forcing IDs for age verification, but what I need everyone to understand is that there’s immense bipartisan pressure to make the entire internet like this, and they are likely going to succeed unless something drastic happens

new Braveheart just dropped
Jack Duffy attaches a respirator to his bagpipes to play through tear gas. “I always play it whenever the police retreat because it's like, ‘You fucking ran while we stayed,’” he says.

BONUS RULING: Judge Thomas Johnston, a George W. Bush appoiintee in West Virginia, used a recent ruling to warn of the dangers of defying due process for immigrants because of what it could also mean for Americans. It's worth a read.

like boy, the hospital has been INCREDIBLE at getting my kid back to reliably maintaining homeostasis, seriously, absolutely A+ work.

but

they really should have given us a heads-up about the symptoms of PTSD in oneself and others and what to do about that

rare disease mom and this is SO true

medicine can be amazing at making people Not Sick but there is a big gap between that and Well

it's actually very funny because I look a great deal like my Mx19 but everyone overestimates their age by like a decade, so when we are together everyone can tell we are related but nobody can piece together *how*, because "mother and daughter" is clearly mathematically implausible 😂

yyyyyyeah for sure
February 10, 2026 at 1:26 PM
I am definitely keenly aware that if I leave the dates off my degrees and drop the first career - well, I look a decade younger than I am and it’s disturbingly handy to let people draw their own conclusions

I mean. As the mom of a teen I can imagine good things that one would describe this way. Teens need to develop financial literacy skills, which actually suggests a different app than adults might use for money management. And teen bank accounts these days are mysteriously terrible. 1/

“Collection of Handwritten Letters from Children in Detention Center” sounds like an exhibit in the Holocaust Museum.
1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵
