For ten years, #CRediT 🎂 has offered 14 standardized contributor roles that make authorship transparent: www.nature.com/articles/d41... But CRediT has no place for #AI tools. So how should we properly disclose the use of #ChatGPT & Co in research? One answer is #GAIDeT w3id.org/gaidet #AIinScience
A ten-year drive to credit authors for their work — and why there’s still more to do
Information about the roles of each author of a paper can help to build trust, integrity and responsible research assessment. Coordinated efforts are needed to consolidate progress.

Taxonomy of delegation: How GAIDeT reframes AI transparency in science, an Interview with Yana Suchikova
Read the full post at the Scholarly Kitchen. In a recent Scholarly Kitchen post summarizing the COPE Forum on “emerging AI dilemmas,” editors urged a shift from detection to transparent disclosure: “AI transparency is not about shame; it’s about intellectual honesty.” We spoke with Professor Yana Suchikova about GAIDeT – the Generative AI Delegation Taxonomy, which enables researchers to disclose the use of generative AI in an honest and transparent way.

...From my side, GAIDeT was never meant as a “solution,” but rather as a traceability layer that could help inform exactly such assessments, by showing how and where AI enters research workflows in practice.

GAIDeT w3id.org/gaidet is not an ethical manifesto but an infrastructure, a way to record, in a structured and machine-readable form, which research tasks were delegated to GenAI. Without such technical infrastructure, even the most profound ethical discussions risk remaining purely theoretical.
Andrea Reyes Elizondo @altibel.bsky.social and I have responded to a blog, recently published on @leidenmadtrics.bsky.social, which argued that using AI responsibly in research means being transparent about it. We object that supposed transparency obscures more fundamental ethical questions.
Why AI transparency is not enough
Recently, a taxonomy to disclose the use of generative AI (genAI) in research outputs was presented as an approach that creates transparency and thereby supports responsible genAI use. In this post we...
