🌱Potted up lightly rooted cuttings of Paliavana prasinata, a Sinningia relative. Surprised sections without foliage rooted, too, unheated & in Winter light. This large (to 7+ feet) shrubby 🦇Bat pollinated Gesneriad from Brazil blooms late Autumn here in Chicagoland, as days shorten. Gesneriaceae

You should check out the two Gesneriad genera Episcia and Primulina. Those are easy to grow, especially when you know how to keep a Begonia alive, and they grow into amazing specimen very quickly with only basic care.

I mostly knew about him through his involvement with the Gesneriad Society, and back then still had no idea how much work he had done with Begonias.

Primulina tabacum offers a splash of color in the winter. And I really need it. -7°F this morning. 🥶

New plant genus discovered in the Andes. Sumacoa barbata is an arborescent Gesneriad endemic to Cordillera del Cóndor.
David Neill, co-author of the study and legendary figure in neotropical botany, passed away this year. Sumacoa represents both a scientific milestone and a tribute to his legacy.

I got this from a friend at a gardening club meeting a few months ago and it just started blooming. It's called Primulina linearicalyx. It's a gesneriad, related to African violets.

I belong to PHS (for Flower Show tix, mostly), I joined AVSA (not much help, but I like being supportive). Joined the Gesneriad Society because Heidi Dillenbeck is active and hey! their site is functional, clubs & shows are plentiful & (relatively) local, and they have a *seed* exchange! Huzzah!

🌱 Baby photos for future reference. The five new #Streptocarpus in front just joined the family — the older ones behind them are starting their first blooms. I think I’ve been bitten by the strep bug 🙊
