Yes, and importantly, "us" includes a lot of T and Vance/Husted/Moreno.

May I suggest that an effective message when talking to them might be #HeLiedToYOU

Exactly, and that should be a focus of every D campaign:
#HeLiedToYOU

The challenge is getting marginal voters to realize he wasn't actually lying on their behalf.

Not sure it's a matter of short memory. As I've said since 2016, we should think of T as a con.
- In a successful con, the grifter gets away before the mark realizes he was taken.
- In a great con, the mark never realizes.
- But in an exceptional con, like this one, the mark thinks he was in on it.

Yes, and then she lost ALL SEVEN swing states. This TRUE doomcasting was the main flaw of her otherwise solid campaign & it will hurt us again if we repeat it in 2026. It does not win votes.

NOT: "She was right."

Instead: #HeLiedTOYOU, and "___ wouldn't say No to T, so you need to say No to ___."

A serious question for Trump supporters: He's been back in power for a year; why hasn't he shown you PROOF that the 2020 election was stolen? Why hasn't his DoJ arrested those who stole the election?? #HeLiedtoYou

A potent campaign message: #HeLiedToYOU

A good thread. If I understand it, it seems very much like what I've been moaning about since last year: For campaigning Dems & advocates, the most important part of #HeLiedToYOU is not fact-checking the lie, but focusing on the fact that he took advantage of YOU, the normie I'm talking to.

Good Q. An idea I still have faith in: Americans don't prioritize truth, but they do understand victimhood. One way to reach some voters might be to show them they, themselves, have been victimized by lies. Focus on the act of lying and on the victim, not on the fact checking. Message: #HeLiedToYOU.

He basically said so in a 2016 debate. Paraphrasing:
Clinton: He cheats on his taxes.
T: That makes me smart.

IOW: Everyone who's anyone cheats. Playing by the rules is for suckers.

And to anyone who thought his special "smarts" were going to help him "drain the swamp," #HeLiedToYOU

This is a stronger message if it's personalized for a persuadable T voter -- exactly the people whose votes we need. Don't debate whether it's really a lie or not. Instead, point out that he was cheating THEM out of THEIR vote.

Believe me, I've tried.
I still have some hope for this approach: Not a "reasoned argument," but a personalized fact. "He raised/lowered this thing that YOU hate/love," and just leave it there. Hopefully they add up.

When the feature rolled out, it raised the possibility of breaking through the maga wall: not just #HeLiedToYOU, but #YouAreAllLyingToEachOther.

With the backlash around a good chunk of the location data being wrong, it's just affirming the lack of trust & truth that actually fuel maga. smdh.

I understand the schadenfreude so common on bsky, but people who regret their vote AND ARE WILLING TO SAY SO are exactly the folks we should be welcoming and encouraging to vote Dem in 2026.

Our ineffective doomcasting in 24: He's lying. You'll see.

Our more effective message now: #HeLiedToYOU

My bad. I was unaware of this quote: "It'll be near it but not touching it." If that's what he said, then we're back to #HeLiedToYOU.

Shocked, SHOCKED.

Yes. #HeLiedToYOU works as a message, though it's sad that so many had to suffer before their eyes opened.

Another problem: "He" is not on the '26 ballot. So the job is to hang his record around every R congressman's neck like an albatross. "___ wouldn't say No to T, but you can say No to ___."
October 1, 2025 at 3:35 PM
Yes, which is why "He's lying about the future" is never as effective as #HeLiedToYOU.

Unfortunately, for the latter to work, most voters need to feel pain first.

The sarcastic "shocked!" replies to David Ho's post are missing the point (tho maybe Ho was also being sarcastic?).

It's a shame we have to suffer to win votes, but being able to say #HeLiedToYOU, with receipts, will be much more persuasive in '26 than making an accurate prediction was in '24.
