Keep an eye out for these #kualakai in our tidepools!
The #nudibranch shown here is just one of many species, each with its own unique colors & markings. These striking sea slugs have a built-in defense mechanism: they feed on poisonous sponges!

NPS Ranger Jon Jokiel recently retired from Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park on Hawaiʻi Island.
We asked him to reflect a bit on his career & his thoughts about how the park's long partnership with HPPA helped to support the work of this national historical park.

One hidden treasure is our tidepools, where you might find #pipipi, or black Nerites. These small snails are endemic to Hawaiʻi, where they cling to rocks & thrive in this unique coastal ecosystem. As the tide recedes, they seal themselves tight.
