Today was the first time in 40 years that I've spoken with a Cornish speaker (I've been away).

I highly recommend it. Sure, I couldn't cope with full-speed conversation with such strong speakers (it's hard learning solo) - but the exprience was great, and I'll be joining a Kernewek Zoom group soon!

Loveday, a speaker of Kernewek (Cornish), said some words in her language were similar to Welsh. So, for example, fish is pysk in Cornish and sweet potato aval dor melys. “There are similarities. If you weren’t a Cornish speaker, you might get mixed up with Cornish and Welsh.”

Love to see Cornish taught not only in Cornwall, but across the South West. Early Brittonic languages closely related to Cornish were once spoken far beyond modern borders. Language revival doesn’t have to stop at today’s county lines.

Cornwall Council has an online translation service for the Cornish language.

They have been translating some nursery rhymes for me to sing to Rowan, and it's made my day.

I realise no one asked, but here's 'Heads, shoulders, knees and toes' in Kernewek:

As I watch the local news on TV, I keep hearing a little voice in my head that keeps having a go at echoing back the odd phrase, but in Cornish!

Do I overdo the "solo immersion" learning strategy?

Na wra vy. (I do not).
