The cost for LinkUS has more than tripled in 3 years. Now, this critical project isn't fully funded and won't be done by 2028. This is what happens when you fund at 0% design- it gives 3rd parties, like BNSF and Vernon, opportunity to demand costly design changes. calelectricrail.org/against-patc...

The CA legislature should confirm that overhead electrification is consistent with the Coastal Act. Until that happens, Metro/Metrolink is welcome to move forward with electrifying the San Bernardino and Antelope Valley Lines, level boarding, and finishing the job on LinkUS to deliver thru-running.

Disappointing comments from Stern here. LinkUS will directly help Stern's district long before HSR arrives, by allowing run-through Metrolink service linking the Valley to Orange County's jobs and beaches - but apparently Stern didn't bother to learn anything about the projects he's cutting.

CAHSR paid for the Regional Connector at LA's request, and partially paid for LinkUS (which Metro has been neglecting). Caltrain had an electrification plan ready to go, but Metrolink, and LA leaders, have shown little interest and shelved their 2017 electrification plan.

The letter’s references to “Inland Empire supercommuters”, despite this proposal effectively defunding rail capital projects outside LA county, suggest a similar strategy to bail out the A line to Montclair. LinkUS and Metrolink double track would do more for supercommuters but may not see $ here.

A one-time $3.3B would electrify 75% of Metrolink at Caltrain costs. SCORE and LinkUS have big funding gaps. But the LA delegation's proposed capital $ would mostly go to local improvements that are vaguely defined or don’t improve service - like ZE buses and grade separations.
