Net buiten Berlijn, op een plek die normaal gesproken een paradijs is voor vogelaars, hebben vrijwilligers bijna 2000 dode kraanvogels geborgen. Vogelgriep heeft de trekvogels zwaar te pakken.

Rund um Linum (Ostprignitz-Ruppin) werden weiter Kraniche von den Feldern geholt - die meisten sind wahrscheinlich an der Geflügelpest gestorben. Die Tierseuche breitet sich wegen des Vogelzuges weiter in Brandenburg aus. Auch in Berlin gibt es Fälle.

Derzeit ist der Vogelzug in vollem Gange und mit ihm dieses Jahr die Vogelgrippe. Täglich verenden viele Kraniche geschwächt in den Teichen in Linum. Was ein positives Highlight des Jahres sein soll ist nun eine Art Schlachtfest geworden.

Jedes Jahr versammeln sich in Linum tausende Zugvögel, darunter auch zahlreiche Kraniche, auf ihrem Weg nach Südeuropa. In diesem Jahr jedoch müssen Freiwillige vermehrt tote Vögel einsammeln – die Vogelgrippe breitet sich unter den Tieren aus.
