#Linux-Stand
I effectively built a “Steam Machine” last year. It runs Win11 (for now) because I didn’t think Linux would fully utilize Nvidia hw (3080Ti + Ryzen7 5700X3D) but boots into Steam Big Picture mode.

With exclusive titles becoming rare, I can’t imagine buying a future (traditional) gaming console.

I am now just hearing that there is new steam hardware. I haven't even reviewed the specs but would 🦫 buy. New Steam VR would 🦫 buy if it's a stand alone unit and runs Linux.

Bitwig has excellent linux port. Tiny 3rd party vst *u-he stand out* That is good thing coz limits options to what daw has. And Bitwig has some amazing home grown. The dudes left ableton to make it.
*mseg*

Now rebooting to Win11. If I don't come back, will have to support apple on iphone/pad 👻

For most gamers, bazzite is a pretty good stand in for steamOS.

SteamOS is...ok. I don't like immutable distros, but I can see why someone unfamiliar with Linux or using a single-purpose device might want it.

Idk I still have it on my deck, but all my gaming PCs are just stock arch.

The gabecube isn't too exciting - I already have a system for using my desktop PC on my TV directly without streaming.

But a dual-sticked steam controller with Steam Deck haptics and a stand-alone VR-headset that's LINUX NATIVE??

Hype hype HYPE.

Ah well, if enough games I actively play drop Win 10 support, full Linux set-up will be for me I guess. Bazzite has been treating me nicely! I just need to... figure out a new drawing program and video editing program that I can stand to learn is all.

Update to my setup, I added a whole new PC! So now my Linux PC is my main. But it is starting to get crowded on my desk. 😂

Pretty much, and 10 was already pretty terrible to use imo.

You get used to it after a while, but I used 7 until I was literally forced to update to 10 and it was a substantially worse user experience.

I'm switching over to Linux soon because I just cannot stand 11

Geeking out on server admin tonight. Editing zone files, remembering lesser used bash commands.
I stand by an old statement: "sudo !!" is the best thing Unix/Linux people have ever come up with. DNS syntax... not so much.
(Explanation: "sudo" is a command that gives you admin [su = superuser] […]

I’ve tested numerous lightweight Linux distros on Raspberry Pi over the years, and some really stand out when it comes to speed and simplicity. If you’re tired of slow systems, here are the ones that worked best for me (and a few I’d avoid). The... #raspberrypi #linux

Void Linux w/ MATE. My draw to Void was really just learning Runit which as it turns out I could stand to like it a great deal more,,,It's fast, like instant fast, but the symlinking just isn't as fun for me.
Runit and Void are cool, but like MATE just not a fit for me.
Cute seeing Gnome2 again tho.

This is Linux ARM erasure and I will not stand for it!

Sigh... Decided to make today the day I swap from Fedora to Rocky Linux. Copied two files from my USB and dragged to desktop, and within the first 10 minutes I've already experienced a UI glitch.

I guess I stand by what I say - Linux distros just aren't ready for the general public.

Looking for a "prevent stand by" on a program while said program is playing Stand By Me. (Doesn't work, wine on Linux.)

From flexibility to built-in tools, @jlwallen.bsky.social shares which Linux distros stand out for coding and why more developers are making the switch.
Best Linux Distros for Development
Not only does Linux have all of the development tools you need, but those tools are generally free, open source and easy to install.

if europe wants to even stand a chance at any kind of digital sovereignty, we need to focus on creating something like active directory for linux. a system to properly manage a fleet of computers and servers.
I am currently battling with some windows11 updates not installing and the first time it happened a few weeks ago was unfortunate, now, a second time, different colleague, it aint lookin' good chief.
dear microsoft, please, can we start acting like the funny number profits company you already are?

I'm trying to format an old USB drive I haven't used in a hot minute so I can use it to install Linux Mint and I have had to restart my computer so many times. 🅱️lease I can't stand Windows 11 anymore

I am so utterly bombarded by AI garbage on a day to day basis in my job that I’m about to throw out my laptop and stand up a Linux distro just to get some peace and fucking quiet. I sympathize with those who want meaningful conversation but a lot of us are burnt out entirely over this stuff.

i think i will just forcefem this m1 (put linux on it) because i seriously can't stand this bullshit

Honestly? Beyond my struggles with getting CSP and Photoshop up and running the past week, (I can't stand GIMP,) and some minor troubles with hardware drivers, I've been so pleasantly surprised by how clean and intuitive Linux Mint feels. It was super easy to set up dual drive boot with Win10, too.
