The new US nutrition guidelines center meat. And according to @michaelhobbes , the only diet that the guidelines specifically call out for being allegedly unhealthy is vegetarianism. The US has always pushed meat, the "protein" push is just a new label.

FYI the FT has now appended a correction to Edward Luce's column. They did so after I sent them ‪@michaelhobbes thread about the flawed mortality data In Covid's Wake, which he used as his source. (Unfortunately even after the correction Luce's column is still flawed and misleading.)
