It's #NationalSnailDay too - obviously! 🐌

This mini silver gilt mount shows a knight emerging from a snail shell, on the back of a goat. It dates to around 1200 to 1350 AD. It was found in Pontefract.

Snails and snail-men pop up throughout the #medieval period. They sometimes symbolise cowardice.
