Artificially high parking fees (esp. for monthly passes) has functionally been one half of Calgary's approach to encouraging CTrain use into the downtown core - the other being restricting the number of arterial roads into the core. It's cheaper + faster to take the LRT so most downtown workers do.

I lived in YVR when the skytrain opened for expo 86; IIR was driverless then and a marvel. Every time I visit YVR, the trains are flawless, fast, reliable and affordable. Why we can’t replicate this is beyond me (sobs in #OttLRT)

That’s it, much of the artwork is pretty nice. But almost all of it is added on. Very little is really integrated with station design in terms of flooring or finishes, or other permanent elements that last. We need to make infrastructure beautiful. @wickdchiq.bsky.social

I lived in Vancouver during expo 86 and the skytrain was game changer for the city then. Have Ben back (pre pandemic) and it remains an incredibly efficient, inexpensive, and beautiful way to get around the city. Wish more cities adopted this model. (Weeps in #OttLRT)
