Strong nose of red and blue fruits with light wood, mediterranean spices, earth, oregano, light vegetables, rhubarb and black pepper. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, sweet cherries, earth, chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs, light oak, black tea, vegetables and peppercorn. Tangy on the finish with fine grained tannins. This tasty red blend from California is complex and fruit forward, with enough earth notes to round it up. Nicely balanced and easy drinking right out of the bottle, with a very interesting nose. Showing nice complexity already, and enjoyable even by itself. Feels like a Cotes du Rhône red. Very interesting out of California. Good right out of the bottle, and gets more complex after 30 minutes of airtime. Good by itself or with food, and a good party wine too. I gave it a light chill, and had it by the pool. Paired very nicely with my Italian Prosciutto and crackers. A blend of 30% Grenache, 17% Aglianico, 14% petite Sirah, 14% Tempranillo, 9% Cinsault, 9% Mourvedre, 4% Roussanne and 3% Counoise. Aged in (23% new) French Oak barrels for 18 months. A small production of only 2,500 bottles. 14.2% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $38.

Optio Vineyards Paso Robles Petite Sirah 2023, California Inky in color with a short reddish rim. Strong nose of blackberries, cooked plums, sweet cherries, light cedar, red candy, spices, chocolates and black pepper. Full bodied and soft, with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate and very fruity with blackberries, black currants, plums, cherries, chocolates, light oak, coffee, spices, licorice, dried figs and light tobacco leaf. Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This young Petite Sirah from Paso Robles is starting to drink very nicely now. Elegant and rich. Fruit forward and extracted. I've had a few vintages of this wine and it is very consistent. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Complex and interesting. Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. Showing a teeth staining color, tangy, spicy and entertaining. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. A good sipping wine that will also pair nicely with BBQ Meats. Paired nicely with my Italian peppercorn Salami. 100% Petite Sirah grapes were aged for 16 months in (28% new) French Oak barrels. Medium length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This young Grenache blend from California is drinking very nicely now. Nicely balanced and elegant. Complex and easy drinking. Good right out of the bottle, and better with some airtime. I used to love this wine years ago and haven't tried it in 5 years. It's not that exciting to me anymore, but still good. A nice sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a burger. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Petite Sirah. Dry on the palate with fresh cherries, currants, light wood, spices, earth, light cola, peppercorn, herbs, black tea, light vegetables and dark chocolates. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This young Pinot Noir from Sonoma County is already drinking very nicely. Elegant and nicely balanced. Complex and interesting. This Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is really tasty right out of the bottle. Very approachable, and better after an hour of airtime when more complexity comes in, especially on the nose. Needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, and has good potential to become a 93+ point wine. A great sipping wine that will pair nicely with food too. I gave it a light chill, and paired it with a cheese board. A blend of 95% Pinot Noir and 5% Petite Sirah. Aged in French oak barrels. A small production of only 6 barrels. 14.2% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $50.

Interesting stuff. Easy drinking and good by itself as a sipping wine. I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.
