#PreAlgebra
Hey man its Trevin from Prealgebra. What have you been up to, cool ya Im in real estate now. I converted to Jehova Witness to marry this girl 10 years younger than me. Anyway I wanted to apologize for calling you an f slur for liking anime. She introduced me to this show called "Solo Levelling," and

that's a good book cover

I've seen the students' basic math fact fluency decline over the years. I started teaching in 2018 and some kids struggled with multiplication facts, but this year I have kids that struggle to add fluently. Makes it hard to teach prealgebra when the kids need the calculator for 2+3

Today in our #homeschool - started with a cooking lesson, learned about Marie Antoinette while continuing construction of a paper guillotine bc we're studying France, did PreAlgebra & literature, and are spending the afternoon learning about electric vehicles.

I'm thinking of asking prealgebra & algebra students this challenge question. AMC questions are generally tough, but some can be easy. I might change this to something sneaky like having 170 cans with the top row having two cans. #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun artofproblemsolving.com/wiki/index.p...

Even prealgebra math is so hard for me to learn because I might understand the concept perfectly after trying it a few different ways but the explanations i am given NEVER match the way I process it. It's hard to explain but its never verbal for me it just is.

… must be a Heyting prealgebra, and the operations ⊤, ⊥, ∧, ∨, ⇒ quotient to the usual Heyting algebra operations in the Heyting algebra reflection.

Now fold the weakening rule into the axiom rule as in the second picture. To my surprise when I wrote this down, I do not see how to recover the fact.

Prealgebra was #mathisfun with topics not in the book - constructions, Monte Carlo Methods for estimating irregular shapes, and notion of ‘random’. One student found an error in my in-class problems’ solution guide and one of my algebra students sat in to see these topics. #mtbos #iteachmath

I love teaching/tutoring but esp via @trianglemath.bsky.social get so many requests that I rely on an excellent team. A new tutor did her first summary of her meeting w/a prealgebra student & shared her real-time notes - how lucky I am to get to work w/ such neat, organized folks! #mtbos #iteachmath

One frustrating thing about teaching prealgebra to 8th graders this year? The inability to understand inverse operations.

Using manipulatives, color coding, pattern recognition...
None seem to have a lasting impact.

It's almost like literally nothing sticks. Even going back several grade levels.

This is indeed what happens, Plisko's formula is valid in the Heyting prealgebra Hom(∇3, Ω), but not in the Kripke frame (𝒫({0, 1, 2})∖{∅}, ⊇) by taking the valuation A ↦ {{0}}, B ↦ {{1}}, C ↦ {{2}}. I can write down the details if you're interested.

We had #mathisfun earlier in prealgebra at @trianglemath.bsky.social looking at rates of work and rates. I showed students two ways, "twiddling" two items at a time and figuring out the rate of work, to solve rate-of-work problems. In level 5 we had a cool factorial lesson. #mtbos #iteachmath

This week in our #homeschool - continuing our PreAlgebra, European geography, & Dante adventures, working on King Lear and The Story that Cannot be Told, and diving farther into our ecology/climate science rabbit hole.

In prealgebra and up I use the system in my binders for students to have places for their notes. Probably we doing in class and what I call their hardest problems which essentially becomes their self-written study guide. #mtbos #iteachmath

Old enough for 7th grade!! Teach the baby prealgebra

OK, I found that a syntactic model works, namely, the Heyting prealgebra of propositional formulas with φ ≤ ψ :⇔ Eff ⊨ φ ⇒ ψ. Let's see if we can find something less trivial, though.

Also, "A & B" are a common variable pair, and so are "X & Y", but "Y and Z" is almost never the pair you encounter in prealgebra.

This week in our #homeschool, we start a 6-week unit on Asia (via the Build Your Library curriculum) by reading I am Malala, diving into climate science, & continuing with our PreAlgebra & Black History Month units. There will also be classes in pickleball, digital animation, piano, & cooking.

I need to convert this chocolate buttercream recipe, because the percentages on my chocolate are different. Wanda’s math textbook to the rescue! Wheels, cocoa percentages, either way, math is there for you.

if i never saw prealgebra again in my life it would be a good day.

I'm going to ask my prealgebra students at @trianglemath.bsky.social tomorrow to consider the fact that 2025 is a perfect square. How many perfect square years has the U.S.A. experienced? When is the next one? #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

In my level 4 class (and I think I'll ask my level 5 students at some point too), I'll get them to start with a warmup about angles between hands of a clock. There's a cool question I should ask prealgebra and algebra students about how many times and when it is 180°! #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun
