My latest at Wired is up discussing the recent crises at Bluesky and Reddit, and what it says about content moderation.

I received comment from Bluesky's press office and analyse their reply here.

But, in short, balancing top-down and bottom-up moderation is hard; both sites are getting it wrong.

Something to keep in mind re: Threads: There are a bunch of anti-trans accounts that Meta will not take down, that are using the fact that Threads accounts are linked to Instagram accounts to dig up photos of trans people to mock

A flyer for a grant opportunity. It reads: Black Spatial Relics 2025 Culture Council Funds Black Spatial Relics is a convening space for and supporter of Black radical performance, community care, collective research and transformative gathering. Founded in 2016, Black Spatial Relics has championed new performance work about slavery, justice and freedom through its residency, microgrant and convening programs. As a continuation of that work, Black Spatial Relics team is excited to launch its new flagship program - Conjure Council Funds. Now more than ever we need spaces to learn and grow together in practices that root us in the work of sustaining our spiritual, emotional and physical wellbeing even as we continue to build and dream a world worthy of our light and futures. In this intention we launch a new program - Conjure Council Funds. This is an invitation for artists, cultural workers who are descendants of the African Diaspora to apply for resources to support periodic facilitated spaces that support Black inquiry, multi-valent learning and expansion. In line with the work of Black Spatial Relics over time, we see the facilitation of these spaces as a Black radical performance praxis in service of community. Flyer for grant opportunity reads: We especially encourage nominations from artist/collective facilitators that exist at the varied intersections of art-making, collective care, embodied practice, land-based work, youth-based work and spiritual practice. This may look like a community of practice coming together for a co-facilitated study space. This may look like a cultural organizing space working to assemble community members around creative approaches to local empowerment. We invite you and/or the collective to which you belong to submit your work to this simple nomination form. This fund is for individuals and small collective grassroot efforts that are based outside of the programming of formal non-profit organizations. Four councils will be awarded funds this round. Awarded projects will receive $4,000 to support their efforts. Timeline Nominations Open: Nov 10, 2025 Nominations Deadline: December 5, 2025 Round 1 Notifications: December 22, 2025 Round 2 Materials Due: January 15, 2026 Award Announcement: March 10, 2026 Funds Dispersed in Early Spring 2026 Supplemental Programming We know that these discursive and exchange based-spaces have much to learn from each other. Consequently, there will be one virtual gathering space for facilitators to come together and share about their work. Cultural workers based in the United States and in the Caribbean are welcome to apply. i gave to Ka Lāhui Hawai‘i (The Hawaiian Nation) and Wai’anae Corp fire recovery efforts, directly to Kānaka Maoli and other Maui residents, provides support for Nā ‘Āikane O Maui and other Kānaka Maoli cultural groups and organizations on Maui. This fund will be running for 3 approximately months.
