#Termitomyces—a
It turns out that fungus growing termites sometimes cultivate Termitomyces titanicus. This is an excellent scientific name. It's a fungi farmed by termites (like ants they do not allow it to produce "fruiting bodies" or mushroom caps while the colony is active […]

Host and microbial defenses against fungal invaders in a fungus‐farming termite
Termites detect and selectively respond to the presence of weedy fungi, and burying behavior is more pronounced in the presence of Termitomyces (crop fungi), suggesting a context-dependent perception...

These are Termitomyces titanicus mushrooms, believed to be the
largest edible mushrooms in the world.

Thankfully unknown to Western hoarders until around 1980 or so.. They can grow to a diameter of 1 metre / over 39 inches.

Hey #fungifriends

Is this a termite mound?

I found it in the forest near a lot of decaying wood. I haven't found other mounds of this type, and the mushrooms are pretty distinct - I have never seen them before in this area, card they only were growing from the mound.

Hypothesis: termitomyces?
