One of the best things about Dutch cycling infrastructure is that it's often lined up by lots of greenery. Not just grass, but plants, flowers and trees. Green medians not only separate fast and slow traffic, they also strengthen biodiversity and make cycling networks attractive and climate-proof!

🙌 Great news in New Scientist. An experimental study shows that air filters in classrooms:

Reduced absence by:
👩‍🏫 12.5% or 1.3 days per pupil

Reduced PM2.5 by:
🚸 32%

Air filtration is a simple way to improve life for everyone. So what's stopping the government?!

More about the solar vs ethanol study (this is not a typo):

“…if farmers took a bold leap and covered 46% of land currently used to farm ethanol with solar panels, that would then generate enough energy to reach the 2050 decarbonization goal for the US.”

Worcester is continuing its fare-free bus system as well!

Now do MBTA! Fares are only 15.8% of the MBTA's budget.

If you're spending a lot of tax money on the fixed costs of a transit system, don't disincentivize its use with fares - wasting the 80% of the budget you've spent from tax dollars.

A former French military base, Vauban is a thriving neighbourhood of 5,500 residents connected to Freiburg town centre by bus and light rail. Built in the late 1990s as a radical experiment in low-car living, it forgoes virtually all on-street parking in favour of active, green, and social spaces. 🧵

"Just give people what they need. It's cheaper. It works." is such a simple concept. And yet American culture is obsessed with figuring out who "deserves" this and punishing those who we believe don't; regardless of cost.
