Yep. Welsh Gov't tend to be more just & compassionate than UK Gov't, but Westminster policies dictate the degree to which they starve & freeze disabled people, worsen their health conditions & drive some to self-harm or taking their own lives.

Reforms within social welfare benefits are premised on a notion that disabled people are undeserving and wilfully avoiding employment (“skiving off”) and defrauding the system." It also states that it is ‘appalled’ by reports of benefit cut related deaths: "The evidence received revealed a disturbingly consistent theme: disabled people resorting to suicide following the denial of an adequate standard of living and social protection, starkly contradicting the foundational principles enshrined in the Convention. In addition to numerous personal accounts concerning benefit deaths, a research study shared with the Committee indicated a correlation between the government's initiative to reevaluate incapacity benefits through the Work Capability Assessment (WCA) and an estimated six hundred suicides over a span of three years."

This will prematurely end the lives of many Disabled people and push more of us into poverty. An NHS in crisis, the crumbling of social care provision, and hospices reliant on charity funding all contribute to a painful death. Read dignity in dying means funding public services. Not this way: This bill will fundamentally change the function of the NHS and transform our relationship with healthcare professionals. Rushed and inadequate legislation risks lives. The Private Members Bill is not the appropriate process for a law of this magnitude. There cannot be sufficient scrutiny. We believe the inaccessible and non-consultative passage of the bill has violated the UNCRDP. Not Like This This bill is not fit for purpose. Insufficient safeguards were weakened further at the committee stage and vital amendments that could have offered us additional protections were voted down. As the bill currently stands - apanel of professionals wouldn't even need to meet the applicant for an assisted death. This bill does not effectively protect us against coercion. Have you consulted Disabled people on your vote? As per the Equality Act 2010 definition of disability, those who are terminally ill are Disabled. The nature of progressive and chronic conditions also means that the over 16 million Disabled people in this country are more likely to become terminally ill. Vote No at the third reading!

So when I & other disabled people were protesting at Lab con (before they were elected) when they dropped UNCRDP, this guy and his Brexit fiends would use their sound system to drown out our protest in favour of their EU pop single. No solidarity shown at all to others.

I can explain this one: they got diddled and fleeced by the most repellent cynics in British politics, who used them like a flunky then dropped the second they were no longer useful. They are too self-important to now even *recognise* that they got conned and fucked silly, let alone to admit it.

What's changed to make you trust the UK authorities' commitments since the UNCRDP report last year found them in violation of disabled people's human rights? Quite rightly, the majority of disabled people's organisations wouldn't trust any assurances given their lived experience.

Today we welcome the Senedd Equality Committee’s Report on the Disability Employment Gap in Wales.

DW gave evidence to the Committee and we agree with its finding that ‘too many disabled people face unnecessary barriers to employment in Wales'.

Disability Wales statement on Senedd report into the Disability Employment Gap. DW welcomes the Senedd Equality Committee’s Report on the Disability Employment Gap in Wales which is currently 31%. We agree with the Committee’s finding that ‘too many disabled people face unnecessary barriers to employment in Wales today’ and that progress in tackling these is ‘too slow’. DW gave evidence to the Committee and we fully support its call for Welsh Government to: Publish its Disability Rights Action Plan as soon as possible. Deliver its Programme for Government commitment to incorporate the UNCRDP in Welsh law. Require public bodies to contribute more substantially to tackling the disability employment gap. Seek reform of DWP’s discredited Disability Confident Scheme. Raise concerns about poor operation of the DWP Access to Work scheme.
