My 'Y' is for... Yellow-browed Warbler!

Another by Orkney-based artist, Tim Wootton. A fabulous, sketchy piece full of life, movement and autumn. For me YBW is THE bird of autumn here in Westray. Framed in colours reflecting the autumn palette of the painting.

My ‘X’ is for ... X factor!

I've seen White-throated Needletails in Asia and once in the UK (1985). It's my favourite bird in the World and why I chose it for the spine illustration for my first book, Rare Birds Day by Day, illustrated by Dave Nurney.

I long wanted one of his gangly hares but by the time I could afford one he’d moved on! But I am more than chuffed to have this great piece.

My (only) ‘V' is for... Varied Thrush!

This painting was commissioned as my leaving gift by @ibisjournal.bsky.social in 2022. The painting by Orkney artist Tim Wootton timwootton.com depicts the bird seen and enjoyed on neighbouring Papa Westray in Oct 2021.
