That progressive agrarians constantly reach for the Amish or jewelbox ecovillages for inspiration with these Mexican farms existing in plain sight speaks to how far up our own (racist) asses our heads are buried when we talk about seeking “alternatives.”

and of course, the big question is transition -- how do we get from here to there? i honestly don't know too much about the theory there, but based on my visits to communes and ecovillages i think it is already happening piecemeal and that's a great start
