...spirits from three different cultures are rolling their eyes and grumbling 'damn kids can't even sigil anymore.'

I had a great talk about this, and consensus was: he's the resentful little guy's dream of wealth and power. It's like the King Ralph movie. What would they do if THEY were rich and powerful? What he's doing. Throw around gold. Beat up anybody. Ignore the rules. Trump is vicarious wish fulfillment.

WELL PLAYED.
Not up to your caliber, but I got hate mail from a rando for posting a Langston Hughes poem once. At the time I was struggling with a speech for an oligarch villian. I copy-pasted the hate mail into the manuscript. The rando's spite was a perfect evil character monolog. This is the way!

Someday this will be one of those chapters in the history books that makes kids look at their teacher skeptically and ask 'what were these people on? Was there lead in the water or something?'

Counting a little win today: I got a great critique on my current solarpunk manuscript, and this is the first time in my career that my reaction was 'oh AWESOME this fixes that annoying weird story element, let's write!' and not 'oh no so much work so much fail'.
Good brain! *pats*

THE ARCHITECTURE OF US
— what survives the body

We are not built of breath alone.
Our #bones hoard centuries—
load-bearing memory,
ancestral weather,
the stubborn calculus of standing upright
after history tries to fold us.
Flesh improvises;
skeletons remember.

Seriously though, I'm 38 and saving to bow out of a career I love at 60, because it's physically damaging. And so many careers are. Restaurant work. Physical therapy work. Farming. Medical sector work. And if you try to say that we ought to take menial retirement jobs, I will tell you to %#! off!

Okay Oz. You can switch places with me. I work as a field supervisor in a landscaping and construction firm. Let's see you lift that bag of concrete at 75. Come on, it's for the economy!

You really do get out what you put in. And if what you put in is shlock cut-corner work, you'll get shlock nobody will be interested in. But I do worry that this crap will ruin not just the names of those using it, but the reputation of indie work generally. And that is a desecration.

I named mine 'Rincewind' and the mop 'The Luggage', after a clueless wizard and his ambulatory chest. I always grin when I get messages like 'Rincewind is stuck on a cliff!' or 'The Luggage has discovered a new space'. Then I wonder what they've gotten into THIS TIME.

Finally, a set is ready and goes into the candle closet for burning through the year!
The full process takes a week of casual work. Start the hot plate, go upstairs, do a thing, go down, do some wicks, pour some wax, then go watch a movie. Perfect work for the very early days of spring!

Another set is waiting on the finishing, basing (making the bases flat) and wick trimming that finishes the process)

My candle making gear is my college hotplate and kitchen utensils, long retired from kitchen duty. While one set of candles sets in their molds, another set is getting their wicks and being put aside to cure. (usually one set is poured and one set wicked and cured in a day)

As part of the season, I begin a work of light on Imbolc. Through the year, I burn candles in bowls. The wax from each bowl is saved in an out of the way storage area when the candles burn down. Come Imbolc, the wax begins the process of becoming next year's candles.

THANK YOU. Been saying this to the kneejerk nihilists for YEARS now. In my case, it's in terms of 'dude, I'm trying to dig out. Either pick up a shovel and help or get lost!'
