🌟 #TrimontiumTuesday One of our favourite objects from Trimontium is this lovely #intaglio depicting a Maenad dancing & playing the double pipes -‘auloi’. Found by a fieldwalker. The carved gem is still set on a decayed iron ring. It is a Nicolo intaglio, possibly Julio-Claudian.

🌟 #TrimontiumTuesday One of our favourite objects from Trimontium is this lovely #intaglio depicting a Maenad dancing & playing the double pipes -‘auloi’. Found by a fieldwalker. The carved gem is still set on a decayed iron ring. It is a Nicolo intaglio, possibly Julio-Claudian.
Crawling around in a Maize field this afternoon (with permission!) I came upon this distinctive expedient scraper.

The fields here are rich with remnants of the past, spent bullets, shrapnel balls, shell-casing, buttons, buckles and strap-ends. In the fallow gap between cropping and planting figures are often seen. A French lad, we raised hands to each other across the till.
