A new one in pic, detected almost a year ago in sound; a yellow throated warbler! The cutie was dancing around this afternoon with some orioles and flycatchers!

Great Crested Flycatcher wasn't at the top of my list of potential Nearctic vagrants given that it is very rare in Atlantic Canada, the Caribbean and especially Bermuda (below) islands which are a good barometer for vagrancy. Hopefully Ash-throated Flycatcher has been ruled out #UKBirding 1/2

Can you see the difference? Neither can most experts. Once considered 1 species, called Trail's Flycatcher, it was split into 2 - Alder (1st 2) and Willow (last 2). Their different songs are the main way of differentiating them. I think they have a subtle beauty. #birds #birding #flycatchers

If you haven’t already, now is probably a good time to invest in the rather excellent North American Flycatchers: Kingbirds and Myiarchus by @cintylee.bsky.social & Andrew Birch. 🤓 #GCFlycatcher #OMGWTFBBQ! #birdinggear

Beautiful little flycatcher with spikey headdress.

17: Ornate

An Ornate flycatcher.
They belong to the family Tyrannidae, the „tyrant flycatchers“ which would make a good name for a metal band.

TIL There's a whole family of flycatchers named Tyrannidae because they're such arseholes. But look at that face! The elegant quiff! The rusty beard (blood of enemies?) on the ladybirb! ROUNBD 😍

A Stonechat Feathursday

The European Stonechat has been reclassified in Muscicapidae, the family of Old World Flycatchers, following genetic DNA analysis. The common name for the bird derives from its call, which sounds like two stones knocked together.
