A significant predator we were soon to witness in action….Nesting season. I expected many losses. What I didn’t expect was that adults too were at risk. The Great Black was witnessed twice picking off adult Puffins. It’s nature and need to survive.

A great black-backed gull stands in the water next to the beach. It has a white head, neck, and belly and black feathers on its back, with black and white on the tail. Its eye appears to be yellow. Its beak is yellow with a bright orange spot toward the end of the mandible. It curves down at the end. There is a gentle wave coming in off of the Irish Sea.
