I like the gutpunches. I like the WTFs. I like the 'that's disgusting'. I like the visceral horror that I can come up with. Not everyone does and that's okay. There are literally millions of books where 'happy' can exist. Maybe I'll write another one some day. For now, I will revel in bleak.

Clair Obscur didn't win me over by simply doing things I've seen before, it had ideas I wanted to see more, ways of indulging in it's culture in ways I wanted more of, it does plenty you have seen before, but it has so many twists & reinventions & gutpunches it lets sit with you I can't believe it.

This family drama epic is absolutely incredible. Can’t recommend higher. Enviable momentum and flow, flawless shifts between perspectives, so many gutpunches about family, familiarity, inheritance, and the passing of time.

This came off more negative than I intended, I liked the ending even if it made me sad. The Jocelyn reveal was like the mother of all gutpunches that I didn't but should've seen coming, it made me want to cry. On rereading it totally fits but I still refuse to believe it.

Come back to kick him in the ass. Of course, doing that might’ve sent him to heaven in the end bc it showed he was willing to risk his life to seek justice. But it’s still such a painfully human thing, to be faced with a dilemma like that. And that kinda gutpunches you bc we’ve ALL had those moments
