It’s been a military term since at least WWII. It entered hacker culture in the phone phreak era (possibly before that) so it overlapped with the Adbuster/Battle For Seattle period. I think that’s the point of cross-cultural contamination with protest culture.

It is utterly pathetic. Only the most desperate wimp would find this appealing. Hacker culture. Lol.
In addition to all these nationalities i would say we have a bunch of homegrown insecure men as well. And i am pretty sure they have been envious of the actual Taliban for the last 20 years.

They push it as the #3rd gen #black-hat #hacker-culture or geek culture. In reality, it is the completed occupation & #colonisation of what was once the hippie, alternative, left-leaning culture of #Silicon-Valley, now overtaken by #venture-capital firms from #apartheid-era #South-Africa & Israel...

What "is" new is Doxxing (which I disapprove of)

I think highly motivated European hacker culture, and teams of fulltime engineers could probably figure it out some useful things about the plane even if thinks its being tampered with.

See, the US doesn't vertically integrate to spread jobs across states. What this means is parts travel.

We discuss why Anonymous ultimately lost momentum, hacker culture and cypherpunk activism to today’s crypto ecosystem.

The episode asks a central question: did we learn anything from Anonymous, and what lessons still matter for today.

I’m working on a piece about the growth of mass nihilism over the last 16 years or so. Using examples such as change in “hacker culture”, niche far right groups spilling out into wider society etc etc. if you have a personal experience I would love to hear from you.

I have been reading to @bunnie.org and I feel like the Hacker and open source culture is alive in every paragraph.

He has shared a framework for the reverse engineering and innovation based on the Shanzhai + Gongkai culture. I really love this kind of mindset ✌🏽✨

✨ Check out this trending post from Hacker News 📖 📂 **Category**: ✅ **What You’ll Learn**: One of the most repeated mantras in #FOSS culture goes something like this: “If you don’t like it, just fork it.” On the surface, this sounds empowering. And technically, it is true. The beauty of open source is that you can take the Mastodon source code, fork it, and do whatever you want with it.

Neuromancer (1988) is one of the first widely recognized cyberpunk game.

It was loosely based on William Gibson’s 1984 novel of the same name, a foundational cyberpunk work that helped define cyberspace and hacker culture.

Hacker culture likes to tell stories about how it's being forgotten but kids with an unabatable obsession for pulling machines apart are going to crack consoles and mod games for the foreseeable future until the new generations find something more fun to hack.

In my experience, the main difference between Hacker News and Lobsters is that it is always a mistake to reply to a comment on HN: nobody will ever change their mind.

Lobsters, however, frequently supply useful evidence and rational arguments. Not always, but enough.

In other words: culture.
